Recently went to the Megastore and once again had a good old look at the big squad number board at the back of the shirt printing section. This got me on to thinking, about how many different squads and players we've had in recent years. With that in mind, i've devised this quiz to see who can remember the last five players to wear squad numbers 1-11 for Saints. I'll get the ball rolling with number 7 (obviously...) 1. 2. 3 4. 5. 6. 7. Lambert, Skacel, Phillips, Kanchelskis, Le Tissier 8. 9. 10. 11.
Christ this is harder than I thought!! I can think of two number 10's: Guly Do Prado and Jason Puncheon 2's: Frazer Richardson, Dan Harding,
1. Davis, Jones, Niemi, Beasant, Flowers 2. Harding, Richardson, Dodd, Perry, Ostlund 3. Bridge, Thomas, Le Saux, Benali, Kasowski 4. Marsden, Schneiderlin, Saganowski, Puncheon, van Damme 5. Lundekvam, Perry, Saejis, Dickson, Monkou 6. Fonte, Powell, Jakobsson, Crainey, Williams 7. Lambert, Skacel, Phillips, Kanchelskis, Le Tissier 8. Cork, Forte, Oakley, BWP, Gillet 9. Beattie, Barnard, Rasiak, Waigo, Draper 10. Davies, McCann, Wright, Wotton, Ostenstad 11. Surman, Guly, Chamberlain (), Holmes, Svennson [Edit] What I've done is just name random players! Didn't see the last 5 players bit. So chances are my answers are off....
Here is my effort of the top of my head 1. Davis, Niemi, Jones, 2. Richardson, Harding, Perry, Ostlund, 3. Harding, Thomas, Le Saux 4. Schneiderlin, Saga, 5. Dickson, Perry, 6. Fonte, Jaidi 7. Lambert, Skacel, Phillips, Kanchelskis, Le Tissier (allready done) 8. Cork, Forte, Gillett, BWP 9. Barnard, Waigo, Rasiak 10. Guly, Puncheon, 11. AOC, Guly, Lee Holmes
Well I know the likes of Puncheon and Guly have occupied two numbers, didn't want to mention them twice.

1.Davis, Niemi, Jones, ?, ? 2. Richardson, Harding, Perry, Ostlund, Dodd 3. Harding, Thomas, Pele, Kosowski, Le Saux 4. Schneiderlin, Puncheon, Saganowski, Sarmiento, Potter 5. Dickson, Perry, Davies, Lundekvam, ? 6. Fonte, Jaidi, Svensson, Powell, Jakobsson 7. Lambert, Skacel, Phillips, Kanchelskis, Le Tissier 8. Cork, Forte, Gillett, Wright-Phillips, Oakley 9. Barnard, Waigo, Rasiak, Madsen, Ormerod 10. Guly, Puncheon, Wotton, Wright, McCann 11. Chamberlain, Guly, Holmes, Surman, Svensson Very tough and still got some missing.
It annoyed me that Wotton and Wright had number 10, always think that should be a forward's number. Same as when Puncheon and Saganowski had number 4 - that should be a defender or defensive midfielder in my opinion
In the olden days of 4-4-3 and 4-2-4 formations number 4 was always a midfielder and number 6 a CB. Likewise number 8 was always an attacker and number 10 a midfielder: 1 2 - 5 - 6 - 3 4 - 10 7 - 8 - 9 - 11 That's what Saints played from 1966 onwards anyway.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcelo_Sarmiento Always thought the standard English squad number/position system was this: 1.GK 2.RB 5.CB 6.CB 3.LB 7.RM 4.CM 8.CM 11.LM 9.CF 10.CF
That's 4-4-2, what I put up was 4-2-4 which was what teams played in the '60's if they weren't playing 4-3-3 like the 1966 England team. That's what Saints played when I first started watching them, so you had Chivers (later Channon) no.8 and Davies no. 9 up top and Fisher no. 4 and Melia no.10 in the midfield.
