Jol has made 3 very decent signings (total about £7m) and clearly stated that his priorities now are a CF and a RB. Others didn't happen on the way - * Jeffren has gone to Sporting for £3.7m * Verhoek is going to Notts Forest for £2.4m * Jerome overpriced (£3m bid rejected) and stuck at B'ham * Gradel (not sure of value of offer to club or player) decided to stay at Leeds - apparently played okay at weekend despite teams (heavy) defeat at S'Hampton * Danny Ings bid (possibly £1m) rejected And * Osvaldo now available at £26m ish - remember Hughes having a spat because MAF wouldn't put up £12m for him * Malbranque to Melbourne Victory - whew!
Malbranque is going to Melbourne? Last thing I read they said he was going back to play in France - what happened? Did he get on the wrong plane at Heathrow? Sad we didn't get Jeffren - a real young talent - watch out for him in a few years - he'll be going for mega-money.
What is interesting is that we do not have any players on loan yet. We have, in recent seasons, had 1 or 2 players on loan, so I would expect us to have a plan to get 1 if not 2 in on loan. As for who is up for grabs, who knows. MJ should have a few contacts though. Steed going to Melbourne, may be he wants a bit of sun for his retirement, good luck to him, a great player for our club.
I'm jumping the gun in including this one here, but it's being reported that Roy is about to sign Shane Long for West Brom at a price somewhere around £6-7mil. I know some of you didn't think he was worth the money, but I think he could have been a good signing for us. We'll see how does under Roy's tutelage.
I agree but it looks like WBA have got him. I think the price tag is interesting as Roy does have a bit of a track record of overpaying for some players - especially Strikers, oddly - think Davis & AJ for example.
Anyone see Nick Bendtner on sky. He said he will not be a Arsenal player this season. Spoke to the club he wants to join and said not its upto the 2 clubs to sort. Also wants to stay in Prem and wants first team football. I would not put it past Jol. I'm just saying here.
Fulhaman,i tend to agree with you on Roy paying over the odds, but I noticed in the rumours he was not willing to pay more than 2/3mil for AJ. Bentnor & Hutton for me. Or Hutton &( Sturridge on loan)
Fulhaman, which Davis did Roy buy? I'm probably being thick but I don't know who you mean. Cottagecravens and Valjing, I don't think we'll go for Bendtner. If we do, it may well mean that Bobby is on his way to Spurs - I don't see them as a partnership, and Bendtner has made it clear that he's moving for regular first team football. If he's unhappy on Arsenal's bench, he certainly wouldn't be happy on ours. He's younger than Bobby, which would be a good thing, but other than that I'd take Bobby over Bendtner every day of the week.
I think it would force Bendtner to claim his spot. No one says he can just start outright and I'm not saying he can play with Zamora either. Zamora needs to be pushed and challenged to start he can't coast like the last 3 years. Lets be honest what serious comp has he had? If we want to move forwards as a club Bendtner is the type of striker we should be looking at. Stoke are also mentioned as in the hunt but I think his wages will be an issue for them and us too if we are looking at seriously. I just cannot see Zamora going back to Spurs. They have Crouch, Pav, Keane, Dafoe...they don't need another striker in my view. Harry likes a deal and this is why I keep saying there could be a swap involved. Dembele, Zamora, Crouch & Hutton could all come into play. I'm not saying it will be this straight forwards but I can see a move somewhere.
Capt. I meant Davies, not Davis - but Kevin - from Southampton to Blackburn back in the late 90's - for a whopping £7.5 million if I remember rightly. Never clicked and only scored 1 goal before being shipped back to Southampton in an exchange deal.
Ah! Yes - I'd forgotten Roy signed him for Rovers. Ironic, as I referred to him on another thread earlier today.
The Shane Long to West Brom transfer is official now. Price reported to be £4.5m initially, rising to £6m depending on how he does - so less than was reported at first.
But Verhoek's move to Forest fell through because he decided he didn't want to be that far from home. He's said that if he does change clubs this window, it will be to another Dutch club. I don't think the presence of Martin Jol quite qualifies us! http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/2011/0...-intention-of-leaving-holland-86908-23333649/
I think it might Capt, as said before Jol is a former Den Hagg player/Manager and he was born there, hopefully this connection might just about help us especially if we sign Lex Immer aswell. Apparently they are best friends aswell,
But the player has said that he pulled out of the move to Forest because he realised he didn't want to live outside of the Netherlands. That sounds like a fairly closed door to any move to Fulham, no matter how well he gets on with Martin Jol.
yeh i suppose, but saying that he could of seen the state of the city (i live in leicester) he decided it wasnt for him lol,
