It is a fair tactic yes. Boring though and something a club of utds stature, how much they spend and the players they have available, it is quite embarrassing in my opinion that they regularly resort to it.

Btw, had we won 0-1, I didn't hear one Unitard fan, nor all their fartcatches in the media and punditry, mutter one word of anything but triumphalism when they vcam to Anfield last year under LVG, had one set piece (a cross to Fellatio, 'natch) and Rooney scored the winner. Not one. It was supposedly some exercise in proving how they could win without trying.

    Hmmm. :emoticon-0181-fubar

When they have someone like Zlatan, who is so strong in the air, it makes sense for them to get the ball to him where he can do most damage. It's not the way we expect Utd to play, but I think we'll see a lot of it when they're up against strong opposition.
We've had a couple of strong front men but never used them properly because we never tried to play to their strengths.
Also they have Fellaini hanging around and have to use him somehow once the bogs are clean.

Is it valid when you've spent £125 million on midfielders then punt the ball over them?

BTW I like the fact tobes is once again defending utd. Eh sweetie...

Excellent point. We bought Andy Carroll and later Benteke, and we hardly crossed the ball to them. Our best crosser retired two years ago, and only Ford, really, can cross regularly with accuracy (as and when he pulls wide). Lalla now and again, but Milner is not on the right side, and Clyne prefers to beat his man and pull it back low.

No one says it isn't... just dull as **** if you had to watch it every week.

Sure youd get boredd if everton lumped it to lukaku and completely ignored bolasie and mirrales out wide and your creative central midfielders

Only they don't play like that every week do they?

They adapted their tactics during the game to avoid your high press and it worked.

If you can call snatching a draw in the last few minutes with a goal which should have been disallowed in a game every man and his dog had them down to win easily, working, then yes - it worked. <ok>

its kept them in the race for 4th (not 3rd) but ended any hope they might have to win a title. so yup well done. as the away side i am still really happy with a point there.

The change in tactics did work mate, they created far more problems for you when they went long.

You'd won the midfield battle and Pogba had a mare, so they went for your weak spot.

    Mweh there's downsides to both..

My only fear about long ball tactics is its too easy to revert to it if under pressure. You need good team discipline or individual players will be tempted to revert to hoofing it when things don't go their way.

On the other hand as we've seen many times players can hide behind the short sideways pass without any penetration..."look boss! We're still passing"

No reason not to have every arrow in the quiver if say the big guy is happy to be on the bench a lot if long ball isn't plan a...

They created better chances playing football in first half and passing the ball through the defence. 2nd half and last 30 mins Mig barely had a save to make when they started going long. Didn't really cause us any issues

There's 5 points between them and 2nd, it's not ended their pursuit of anything outside of winning the thing, and imo they were out of that before the game kicked off.
