I've got no doubts that he turned down the chance to play for us, in favour of his home town club that looked for all the world to be challenging for honours, he'd have been suicidal if you'd have won the league after he turned you down. I'm certainly not bitter though, I respect his goals, his record and his decision and I'm happy that in hindsight you didn't go on to dominate the PL and win every trophy with Alan Shearer and we had to sit and watch it all happen. We had better suited players to our club in the end, I think it worked out well for both sets of fans.
Well it was much easier for him to push out the likes of Asprilla and Kitson than to attempt to dethrone The King at Old Trafford, he chose the path of least resistance. I'm not sure if he'll ever admit to regretting it, or if he even does regret it, watching his mate Teddy (who was always in his shadow) go on to win a treble, for example. Still, at least he won your hearts.
