Not going to happen as long as Kat owns us. May not even happen if the Chinese take over.

Some fairly serious paper talk up here in Glasgow about a joint takeover of Rangers by Red Bull and Honda. The stumbling block apparently is that they want to relocate to Belfast and rename the team Red Honda Ulster.

NB This gag only works in a strong Celtic accent.

Business model dictates that we are more interested in cash in than creating success on the pitch, and before you all say success on the pitch dictates it,ambition will bring success and we lack it.
A Chinese takeover will not happen.
17th place in business revenue is of more importance than any other successes.
Beefy does your information come from you're informants on the inside or is it just speculative opinions.?

Kat isn't interested in cash, she simply doesn't want to put any in. Kat wants us to be self-sufficient. So we always be looking to sell players at top price to finance buying players and also paying for all their contract. It's why when we sell players for say 80m we only spend 50m-60m of it, the rest is used to cover wages.

I get a fair bit of info from a person I know (mainly on player sales). I know nothing about the Chinese deal. But it has been reported enough to suggest something is going on.

Nothing unusual in wanting a business to be self-sufficient. Katharina got shot off some of her father's businesses....I suspect that he may have liked to take businesses on and turn them round, but she wanted things more tidy. It was always the intention that Saints would be rebuilt into a successful club....whilst it is possible that Markus may have become besotted and threw more cash at us, that was by no means certain. We were never going to be a Man City or a Chelsea.

I am starting to come around to the idea that you can't just be self-sufficient in the Prem. But then that could just be me being a little fed up with us selling players all the time. Doesn't help this is my first day back to work after a holiday. :emoticon-0106-cryin

Yeah, I think it's a pipe-dream. The scouting has to be 100% for it to work. Occasionally we will get it wrong.

It is really depressing being a saints fan ATM, I said last season that I'm falling out of love with football. The mercenaries just make hate it. There's nothing a club our size can do, it just seems so futile. The Europa league had me buzzing again, but then Claude changed the whole XI and messed even that up. Should have beaten Hapoel FFS.

If we can't break even, then no club can.

Is Clubcall still going? Oh the heady days of ringing up their 0898 premium phone number to hear someone talk very very slowly about Saints gossip.

I much preferred the other 0898 numbers.

Nah, Shane still has a future at this club. He'll always miss more chances than he burys, but he scares the crap out of defenders, & provides us with the perfect outlet when we have a lead to defend ( like against Liverpool).

He mostly has a future at the club because his resale value has plummeted this season. I agree with the original point, the daftly long contract has killed his hunger. He was a good player when he has something to prove. Agree about his strike rate, but I don't think he's working anywhere near as hard as he did.

He's only a "good outlet" when... a) He actually makes runs. b) Our ponderous midfield raise their head and manage to give him a decent pass

Anyone read Ralph's little epistle on Saints Web that he gave to a German magazine?

To sum it up he says we are selling club, we hope not to be eventually and we model ourselves on Bayern Munich.

To me I find it depressing with more than a whiff of BS. If they are open and transparent with the fans perhaps state this and other club intentions in a magazine that majority might read for a start-off.

He has a bit to prove now, so he ought to be brilliant.

He can only make runs when there is space for him to run into, and when, as you say, there is a chance of the midfield playing the ball into said space.

Very much doubt that the long contract has affected his form in any way. Hasn't hurt Virgil's, has it?

Agree, and its very random how Ralph makes these comments. Almost as if he does it "out of the control of Les Reed & the media dept". Perhaps its because no UK based media are interested in talking to him. Can't see how we can model ourselves on one of the biggest clubs in the world. We certainly don't model our ticket prices on Bayerns.

All a bit of a puffy guff piece, really.

Long is 30 (next week) and I'd say he could finish his career with this contract. His motivation to "get one last big move/payday" has probably gone. He's not going to join a bigger club than Saints now. He's comfortable.

Virgil is 25 and on a rocket to the moon. His contract was all about Saints getting the maximum amount when they sell him. Although he's so good, we can pretty much hold a huge bidding auction in the Summer (when he WILL leave).

I concur. Plus by saying we know players use the club as a springboard to bigger clubs why the f**k should supporters even be interested in who we sign or get excited by they way the team plays?

He absolutely confirmed if a good offer comes in we will definitely sell them - only missing out 'in a heartbeat'. What's the point? We will never be a settled club and should the model go a bit wonky we'll be back to 'Struggling Southampton' which some of our youngers supporters thought was the club name.

Then the article mentions the bareness of our trophy cabinet.....nice.

Totally unfair, the 4 youngsters that have been given their chance so far this season have all done really well, esp the 2 in their debut season McQueen and Simms, to the point that if Mcqueen plays instead of Ryan- or simms plays instead of Davis most would say the team has not been weakened by much. Hesketh is unfortunate with his injury and Reed is capable but faces compitition and probably needs a season in the Championship
