Yeah I saw that. I was being tongue in cheek really, but I actually would prefer him to Rhodes.

I don't think our policy has failed, so much as stuttered. I fully expect both Boufal and Redmond to come good for us in a big way.

The short term problem is that we lost our two top scorers and no one has yet stepped up. But they will. So in the short term, we really do need a goalscorer especially with Charlie injured. In the long term we'll be fine.

Despite being an optimist where Saints are concerned, I don't rule out the possibility of getting sucked into a battle at the wrong end of the table this season. For that reason, I do believe we need a short term fix this window. I don't believe we need to lose belief in the coach or the players we have; or the club for that matter.

Well that is sort of what I mean. You've said it has Stuttered which is perhaps a better choice words. I meant that it is still a failure in terms of the objectives in the recruitment department have not be achieved. But that isn't to say the entire system will never work.

With regard to a short term fix. I think we could still get player to help us long term in this window but we will just pay over the odds. But yes, one signing is needed and that, if at all, is all we will get.

I too don't think our policy has failed, but I do feel it has come to a end. For me this will be our last season being owned by Kat. (Nothing in the know)

When we play Jay, he is at least in the box 50% of the time. He just can't do much with the ball (partly due to him not being that good anymore and partly because we have no attack minded centre mids). When Long players it's more like 2% of the time, he just runs about randomly.

Should we do a West Ham and offer West Ham £10m (payable over ten annual installments) for Payet?

If we were to get sold, The new owners should keep all our players for the next season and invest 80/100 million and let Les, the scouting team and the black box do its thing. Fully fit side, we are only 2/3 Quality additions away from pushing on.

Plea, Sigurdsson and hernandez please.. and before you say it... the hernandez was tounge in cheek.

Our major problem this season hasn't been creating chances, but putting them away and that can be rectified with a single player. Whilst I agree that we're not going to solve all our (long term) problems with a single purchase, a capable striker would help convert a lot of our draws into wins and losses into draws, ensuring that we would not be at the wrong end of the table come April.

Even when Austin was fit we wernt exactly scoring freely. Our lack of creativity from midfield is equally as serious an issue as our lack of strikers. You can look at shots per game all you want but the statistics don't actually show how slow and unimaginative our attacking play is. There is no creativity and the chances we do have are often not clear cut. Central attacking midfielder and a striker are both needed but we will probably just get Gabbiadini and that's only if Napoli lower their demands.

Jay has actually played okay of late. And it's pretty naive to just say he "isn't that good anymore". Have a bit of patience, he hasn't even had a full season after 2 years out yet.
Although at least you acknowledge the lack of attacking CM plays a big part. Many people seem to think striker = goals and if not it's solely down to them.

I agree completely. I really thought he should have started on Saturday, although it's easy to say that now. I think with a run of games he can get back on track, but the truncated season with constant rotation isn't doing him any good. Long was ineffective against Burnley, then Puel brings Tadic off for Rodriguez when he was the most dangerous player we had on the pitch. Jay is getting better and better, slowly but surely. Improvement in all of his performances lately, I thought he had a good game against Liverpool.

Nothing naive about it, it's all about how you interpret things. Me saying he isn't good anymore is just me saying I don't think he is a good player, I am not saying he is a bad player. To me he is decent/ok player. All I am saying is for me Jay will never get to the level he was at, which was a good player.

Perhaps MLsfc interprets your view as naive?
