I think Puel has been dealt a tough hand to play...a lot of success for recent managers and a team lacking sparkle. I don't think the latter was deliberate....we did buy some good players in the summer....just something that can happen to any team...especially in a club like ours that doesn't over spend. Les Reed got the balance of the team wrong....for the first time for years to give him credit. And Puel wanted to get into the EPL and accepted what he was told by people more experienced in the EPL than he was. Be easier to judge Puel next season...no, I don't see him getting sacked and neither do I see him being nicked. :)

Are we even close to signing anyone yet? Some of the things shared from SW have about as much substance as a steaming pile of horse s***, things from two weeks ago saying that a signing was close etc.

Can't wait for another season of this brand of football.

Saints will do the old "by mutual consent" thing if the rest of this season goes down the crapper.

Sadly, I don't think we are. Not heard a single titbit of a rumour from the people I know at the club. All I get is shrugged shoulders.

But results would be different if we'd had someone who finished our chances....I know...if wishes were horses, beggars would ride, but Puel can't put it in the net himself. We needed another striker (as we all knew). You can point all over the pitch and say...what if, what if.....but I think our other players would have more ambition if we had a Rickie Lambert-type player to get the ball to.

Cheeky bid for Jordan Rhodes perhaps?
Now, I'm not a fan of he, and any other season that would seem to be a big (panic laden) mistake. But at this stage, a positional striker like him could be a short term fix. He doesn't bust a gut ala Long, he doesn't bully the opposition, he actually doesn't do much more than wait in an area where he thinks the ball will arrive and stick it away. Whats not to like! <laugh>
Anyhow, I expect he'd be far too expensive for that sort of experiment.

For me it is a no. Not digging you personally HR, but that is a bit of a "fans approach." Signing a player that deep down we all know isn't good enough for this division does absolutely nothing for us or our results. That is signing someone for the sake of making a signing. The club must only sign a player that we need and a player that is good enough (ok, always a gamble), but I see absolutely no point in signing a player who is not good enough. Rhodes isn't good enough in my opinion and presumably Middlesbrough's coaching team. If we sign a player like Rhodes, we'll be moaning about him by May and stuck with him unless a Championship team sign him from us at a loss.

This is why it is difficult for the club. We have to find a player who is good enough and available. It is going to be tough.

Yeah, it was hardly a ringing endorsement from me! He'll end up in the Championship knocking goals in for fun I expect. #panic-over

He's another one who's not shown he can cut it at this level. It will help him to get away from loans and have a settled club though.

See, Bojan does offer something different. Even if he goes missing at times, when he's on it, he'd be exactly what we need. Can't believe Stoke will let him go to a team near them though.

That Everton result was kinda hard to bear. Normally I would delight in seeing City get beat, but that just depressed me.

It's fairly obvious what has happened. Our system of selling off our best players for huge prices and buying well scouted cheaper players to replace them has failed. As simple as that.

However, one failure doesn't mean that the system will not allow us to grow and be successful long term. In the same way the previous 3 seasons when the system has worked perfectly doesn't guarantee long term success!

Give the board time to actually amend their mistakes and try and have a little patience. I know patience isn't exactly something football fans have in abundance but let's just give things a season at least!

N.B For any fans hoping all our problems will be solved in a single January transfer window I can assure they will not. We may get one player in if the price is right but most likely just do more in the summer. Again, patience is required.
