Look, so far I've not risen to a series of increasingly strident, defensive and sarcastic posts except by trying to put a little bit of data into the mix, mixed in with a little humour. However, you've decided to make it personal.

Even though you've come over all tender and hurt, if you read back through my posts at no point have I said anything about you or your character - I've addressed what's in your posts. I've not called you "not as intelligent" as me, and I've certainly not called you "dumb". I'm careful about that.

So, here goes me rising to the bait. Don't ****ing label me "happy clappy". It's unnecessary.

I don't think there's much chance of us going down, I think we COULD be closer than some think though.

For us to be seriously in trouble though, I think it would need two things to happen:

    - To go into February with no new signings.
    - Virgil or Romeu to pick up a long term injury.

Now I'm pretty hopeful none of those will happen, therefore we should be fine.

We're very much the definition of midtable imo.

The risk of relegation is very slight. That's because Swansea, Hull and Sunderland are much worse teams than us and the table should reflect that after 38 games.

This. Things aren't great, but we have time to sort it out. This season I feel we are safe. It just comes down to whether Puel is the right option long term.

Yep, all year I've fancied Sunderland to get out of it but they look so poor and if they don't sign anyone they're ****ed. I'd also expect us to finish above Boro at a minimum too.

Next year could be a worry though. A huge Summer coming up where we HAVE to get it right, particuarly if Virgil goes.

The one thing I hold Puel accountable for fully is his incessant need to apply a playing system and formation onto a group of players that do not fit that system. Last season we still managed to squeeze 10 goals out of Long, 7 from Tadic, 5 from Davis...in total an additional 31 league goals along side Pelle's and Mane's 22. His style was meant to be a system that helped control games in a busy fixture period and it's open to interpretation whether he's done that. For me (and just my personal opinion) he isn't the long term option from a fans perspective. However, from the perspective of a board who are keen to sell high, buy low and bring through youth, he is probably a very attractive long term option. Also as good as the league cup semi is, my feeling is that it's papering over the cracks a huge amount.

Seems to me the formation changed from the diamond months ago, to more of a 4-3-3. We have created more chances so far this season than at the equivalent point of any other season since we got back to the PL, so it's the finishing that's the problem, not the tactics.

If we have bid £15m, you would assume that it's not the top price we'd be happy to pay. That's hardly negotiating, or trying to get the best deal for us. So one presumes we'd be OK with paying more. Now whether that's £16m or £17m or £18m or something else, I don't know. But we're starting to get towards £22m (and that's assuming that Napoli are unwilling to negotiate down at their end). For the sake therefore of a few extra million, maybe only £2m or £3m extra, I'd be pretty annoyed at the club for rejecting the chance to sign someone who they clearly think is good enough (otherwise why target them?). Just pay it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow. But before 1 February, if Napoli haven't budged by then.

We've gone from a 4-4-2 diamond to 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 months ago. Players just aren't playing to the standard that we know that they can.

I know stats aren't everything, but I think this shows exactly what our problem is this season. Not the tactics, not the formation, it's a goalscorer.
