My guess is that as it's clear they do want to sell, we will test their resolve and wait until the end of the window. They are most likely hoping West Brom or Wolfsburg stump up the money but if they don't and our offer is the highest they may well just sell him then. Would explain why it is taking so long despite our need for a striker, we want to save a few quid!

 

Not sure this guys the answer, but waiting till the 31st could kill our season. Massive run of games coming up.

Don't think anyone signed before the Liverpool game would be allowed to play in that match as it counts as the same round. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

The Mirror are linking Jose with a move to Liverpool. Any emails from them should be filtered straight into Les' spam folder from now on.

It is, but it's football. Injuries happen. West Ham had half their team missing at the start of the season. Hull still do. Sunderland will be cursing having to play Mannone, with no Pickford.

I tried my best to find the answer recently. Nothing obvious in the competition rules which I noticed that said they can't - basically said that if you'd be eligible to play in the game if it was a PL game, then you can play. But I'm not certain.

 

BBC gossip has it down as a swap with Jose and Sakho, that would work

 

Probably a loss means there is no truth in it. Fonte is a CB that wants to leave, Sakho is a CB that wants to leave... Lazy journalism puts 2 and 2 together and makes 5. Swap deals just don't happen in English football.

 

Heaven's: I hope you are right because we cannot continue like this - but its not just about a striker who can finish - its also about the quality of the final ball. We seem bereft of a killer final ball to play someone through.

 

Every place in the PL is worth money. I agree we shouldn't panic and buy the wrong player, but if we have decided that this is the right player, it is daft to quibble over a couple of million when you consider the rewards. However, we have no idea what is going on....for all we know it is all over bar the shouting and minor details are being ironed out.

 

Know what you mean about lazy journalism but I can actually see this one happening. Sakho just wants out and taking refuge with a French manager who knows him. Fonte definitely wants out. So it's just the commercials that would be the problem. I think this will happen.....

I don't think we can afford to wait, and if we do not freshen up the squad this month, I do fear a relegation battle coming. Think it's quite naive to think that we're to good to go down. We are only 8 points of the relegation zone. We are the second lowest scorers in the league, with only Middlesbrough below us.

19 scored in 21 games, 9 of those were in 3 games, so 10 in the other 18 is relegation candidates. The board really need to back Puel now. Southampton should never panic buy as they are always planning ahead aren't they? Or so we're told.

The Fonte issue is not helping with team spirit I'd imagine, and Les needs to get rid off him asap, then get at least 2 new players in to rejuvenate the squad, and give Puel something different to work with. The next 3 league games are massive. Lose to Leicester, Swansea and Sunderland and we're in big trouble.

Just don't want to imagine losing to 3 teams below us, still having a player who no longer wants to wear the shirt(Fonte), and with no freshening up of the squad by the end of a January. So act now Les and support the man you bought in to replace Koeman.
