You can't have the same idea for both Plan A and Plan B... that would just be a continuation of Plan A

By the time we play United we may be fourth or 5th in the league
    The following results are known:
    Tottenham v West Brom
    Swansea v Arsenal
    Everton v Man city

Necessary to get something from united game

In that case buy Lucas for £4m and we're done. How disappointing would it be for us fans to see our team finish so well in the league with no net spend. :(

Whilst it would be an achievement... imagine if you pushed a bit harder, spent some money and won the league instead. You don't want to be falling into wengerball and getting top 4 every season

    So spending guarantees success?

It's not as though we don't ever spend any money is it? It's just that our club has different resources to yours and has to act accordingly.
It's not an equation - most spent=most success.
Although it obviously helps it's not the sole factor. Ask City.

Doesn't guarantee it, but is sure increases your chances especially when you have obvious gaps in your team/squad :p

i'm not the one saying that a net spend of 0 and finishing in a good position is success though. I think spending a little extra where necessary to push you to a higher position (in this case winners) is more important than doing an Arsenal FC.

Yes we have different resources but you have about 50m to spend but refuse to do it (obviously it needs to be the right players) but you are short on your squad right now when the opportunity to win is right there....

Anyway the spending was a bit of a tongue in cheek response to zingy.

    Fairynuff.
Your point above is valid but presupposes that we know exactly what is going on, and yet we don't.
Spending on the wrong players out of desperation is a trap that BR (and others before him) fell into because he couldn't find another solution. It appears Klopp has a slightly different approach.
Perhaps he manages players instead of collecting them? He seems to be a man who believes he can get the best out of players rather than just assembling an expensive jigsaw puzzle.
Everyone was screaming for a LB in the summer to replace the walking catastrophe that is Alberto Moreno. There wasn't a suitable one available, so he put a competent, versatile player in there, and though it's still not ideal neither is it a disaster.
Perhaps he feels he can do this until the right players come along?
Maybe he's right, maybe it'll all go tits up, we'll have to see - but for 'Pool fans it's an exciting time with the possibility of a different philosophy and approach to that of recent history.
