This may be the oddest thing/most illogically football fan thing I've ever posted.

I'd be more upset by Yoshi leaving than Jose.

 

I think if we got a ridiculous offer for Yoshi we could only accept if we were certain VVD was going to be with us beyond the summer. You need players like Yoshi in your squad.

 

We said the same about Fonte June 16...

 

With Fonte probably/possibly moving on, Yoshi will be staying here. He is a solid CB familiar with Southampton.

 

Cant we try and flog them Fonte instead, Euro winner, Premier League regular...got to be worth £20m

 

No point selling Yoshida for £15m, would have to be silly money to sell in a position we are so light in and other departures likely.
Makes sense for the Chinese clubs really. They are only allowed 4 foreign players, one of which has to be Asian. Can't think of too many Asian players better than Maya Yoshida.

 

Yoshi gets better everytime we give him recurring starts, not to mention he's one of the few players who looks bloody thrilled to play for us. Even if he is only considered a backup member It would be madness to let a player of his calibre to leave.

Besides,I just got him on my jersey so would prefer not to have to burn another shirt!

I thought Maya was immense last night. He is quick and never afraid to find Z when there is danger. He could only go if someone offered mega-bucks, in my view. Even then I'd be a tad pissed off!

 

His deal ends in 2018, so I'd like us to give him a new deal. Even while patiently waiting in the wings, he's earned it.
Top professional, very happy to have him here.

 

We should keep him for medical research alone...

I can see him being the only one to be what we thought the likes of Fonte and Lambert would be: heroes that finish their career at Saints. He may decide to return to Japan at some point, but I'd love him to stay and finish mainstream football with us.

He always seems to have a humble, grateful approach to life as a wealthy footballer.

 

On a personal level he's never, not once, complained in public. Far from it, he's come across as a quiet force for good. He's a model professional and seems to be just a really nice guy. We could do with his staying if only for that.

But more than all that I want him to stay because he's a damned good centre back. I've said for a very long time that Maya is a different player when he gets a run in the team. I think we're about to see if I'm right. I've defended him on the terrace, in the Echo and on here. I suspect we're about to see the best of him.

There are fans that forgive errors in Virgil and Jose, but somehow engrave Maya's on their hearts. Maya is a good CB and if he needs rescuing sometimes, well, so do most CBs.....that is why you don't have just one and why other team mates also have to be ready to help out. We have been lucky to have such a solid player to step in when Virgil and Jose aren't available. Gardos looked ok on the rare occasion we saw him....perhaps he would have improved if he got a run in the team, but he is always injured. We need another CB if Jose leaves, but I have no problem with Maya playing the rest of the season.

 

Corrected that for you, Fran. The Japanese have a very different view of the ageing process!

 

Maya is a true professional......he reminds me of the players of yesteryear............Glad to be playing for a decent club and will give all when he does play. He does not appear to be looking for hero worship, (not like some of them) Nor is he likely to be someone that points a finger if someone makes a mistake. He is a solid all round player. Should be due another contract before the season ends........why so slow Saints lets be 'avin ya....get a new contract on the table for him!!

 

Japanese are generally very honourable people & good ethics play a big part in their life. Of course that might not transfer to footballers but Yoshi seems very much of that ilk. I think he'll be with us, whilst we want him. Great servant to date.

Ps. We used to have some Japanese working for us in our office & whenever they would speak on the phone to someone in a higher position or even more senior (age), they would stand up. Quite amusing to see these girls bobbing up & down! .......... just read that & for the gutter minds out there, i didn't mean that way!
