Outside the top five or so the rest are regularly used for shooting practice by Barca and RM. So their league is the same as ours except the investment in lesser clubs is just not there.

Historically the top ten European club trophy winners contains three Italian, two Spanish, two English, one apiece of Dutch, German and Portuguese so success ebbs and floes over time but Barca and RM have been dominant lately.

I have loads of them and always willing to share. For instance ManU have six Euro trophies to their name whilst Liverpool have eleven, and I have seen most of them along with World Cups since 1958.

They do rattle up some high scorelines those two but I'd argue that the fact that over the last, say 25 years, Alaves, Atletico Madrid, Malaga, Sevilla, Real Betis, Deportivo la Coruña, Villareal, Valencia, Celta Vigo have all made a mark in Europe, plus the traditonal strength of teams like Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad, indicates that the league is stronger than the dominance of Real Madrid and Barcelona suggests. Plus, at least its a sustained two horse race in Spain- in England, until Fergie retired, we were dominated by one club for 20 odd years with only occasional challengers.

That doesn't make it a tin pot league though, just because Barca and Real are miles ahead.

Ronaldo and Messi are the main catalysts behind their recent success and the hammerings for the lower teams are just because they're absolute freaks - just look at their scoring record.

I can only look at wiki not add to it.

They banned me from adding things after i wrote that Altidore was the offspring of an Indian pygmy and a donkey.

Touchy ****ers. He wasnt really Indian.

My nephew is a COYS supporter and rates him highly as a player and person.
IMO Defoe's off field activity shows he has a strong solid commitment to his employer and the community <cheers>

Just read a few articles on NewsNow Sunderland site and it seems we are starting to play more hardball on transfer activity- eg only accept £8 mil for Lens

Actually pre-Sky, and when football was less wealth dominant, Sunderland had five championships against ManU's two.

It's a shame you took it in such a way but I was not aware of anything offensive I said in my historical statement.

True enough, but similarly in England Leeds, Forest and even Villa came and went as times and finances changed and the Spanish clubs you quote have gone through the same process. I think it is fair to say that the Prem is becoming that way, again mainly through default.

Yeah, teams come and go, that's entirely right. Just look at Stade de Reims; played in the first and fourth European Cup finals and then disappeared into obscurity for 50 odd years. But what I meant was that just because a league is dominated by two clubs, doesn't necessarily mean its a weak league.
