I disagree, the clubs can't make the money without the footballers. At any other company, the best staff will be paid the highest salaries, football is no different, nor should it be.
See I don't get that train of thought - If there are Millions of £££ floating around in a business, then the people responsible for the end product surely deserve their wage on a relative scale? If there were millions floating around in my line of work, you can guarantee I'd be wanting a large chunk of it and would think I'm entitled due to how much work I do for the organisation I work for (and the team I am part of) - we will be generating big income for our part of the business this coming financial year and I expect remuneration for it Just my opinion though (and tel's seemingly)
Fully agree mate, but that IS the current state of affairs unfortunately. I meant comparably to others. What do you reckon Tony Carroll is on at West Ham? or Bony? or Crouch? none are as good or contribute as much to their parent clubs as Defoe.
Sort of mate, the shirts don't sell without Pogba. The fans don't turn up without Zlatan. Sky doesn't pay so much without Fergie. Give them what they're owed.
I just had a moment of disillusionment Tel. I know you can't stop the world turning and for the most part people do get paid what their work is worth. I'm just an old fart who sees nurses taking second jobs to get by and kids dying of hunger. Reality will kick back in soon.
Yeah Although "the fans don't turn up" I think there's only a handful of clubs could claim they would/do without success - You, Us, the Mags - after that I'm struggling!!
To be fair if hypothetically we did sell Defoe for 30 mil then that is enough money to buy a replacement. Don't ask me who I'm not a scout. I'd still rather stick than twist though seeing as he's virtually keeping us up singlehandedly, but there is a temptation there to reinvest the money in a forward and a CB or CM, someone to improve the spine of the team. I'm sure that like 98% of transfer rumours it's pure bullshit anyway.
It's not always fair is it? But we aren't living in a communist state. The reason kids die of hunger has more to do with corruption and religion than footballers.
Depends if there's hope, you lot seem to find it from nowhere. If my club treated it's fans the way yours gets treated, I'm not sure we'd turn up. I'm not sure it's a good thing mind.
Totally agree with that. When I see the likes of that BHS bloke on one of his yachts and screwing over the pension funds it sort of boils my piss (to quote one of you guys)!! For some being rich is just not rich enough.
Phillip Green's a scum bag, he went in with the sole intention of taking the company down. Needs his Knighthood revoked asap. Mike Ashley seems to be the only billionaire being made accountable for his actions and I'd bet my last quid it's because he's refusing to pay off the right people to brush it under the carpet.
Not sure mate - I just know that United have been followed at every level for years - they've always been a big club throughout my lifetime - they were made bigger by the plane crash as they kept on playing afterwards which gave them a world renowned reputation (according to my Dad). I know that ours and Newcastle's fans would turn up regardless - as you say, not sure if it's a good thing or not as the heirarchy won't learn if punters keep paying their money
I fully agree mate, but i'm being comparible to other so called top end footballers who will be on similar or more.
How many folk on here would seriously give credibility to Defoe's future tally if he went to China and scored 200 goals in 3 years? I've just watched Oscar's goal, it's ****ing shocking how bad the standard is out there. Reminds of Pele's goal tally every time I watch China footy for some reason.
absolutely! Scored in tinpot leagues against nothing clubs! Can you imagine Ronaldo or Messi in those leagues and the tally they'd return!!
I'd have more respect for him if he had 300 goals in a top European league than 1000 goals against nobodies. I've no doubt he'd have still been a top striker, he was a great finisher, but there's been plenty better. Ronaldo, C. Ronaldo, Messi, Cantona, Rashford.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38542642 Good article on (not) selling Defoe apart from the bit where we apparently bought him for £14m
Agree about value of Defoe to our future but £30mill is very attractive WE were lucky in the transfe t deal when he came and if true we are lucky if he goes for that money Positive outlook : China would be aware of Sunderland AFC via Defoe; our players may be too dependent on his goals and so under performing Asora or/and Maja may step up. We await further news KTF
I love the calculations that put Defoes value to us at 41 million, that should be our price. Either meet it or don't bother
My only fear would be a China bid, they have crazy money and in terms of striker I don't think they could attract better out and out finisher to that league as yet
