There you go...back on track (and I'm really looking forward to it)

Heard quite a few people in the last couple of days decribe the blade installation as a 'monstrosity'.

    Big shame.

I shouldn't let it irritate me, but it does.

Does anyone think it would have looked better stood on its end... symbolic of the Angel of the North type of thing but made in Hull... or would the wind then become a factor...?

The same ****s who rubbished the big screen, rubbished the Humber Bridge as a 'bridge to nowhere' and who rubbished the COC bid.
Obese, mouthbreathing, Top6 armchair fans whose negative mindset is to run down THEIR city at every opportunity.

I happen to be obese and I can safely say that your post is a case of pot calling kettle black.
Don't judge me by my size, my colour, my religion or my culture. I am a fat, white, protestant man from Hull. Your comment is as narrow minded as ones that say the blade is a monstrosity.

I think the problem with people who simply see a 'monstrosity' or an 'eyesore' is a failure to see it in its context.

It's not just an object, it's what it represents. Bit of a shame that it might have to be explained, but maybe we should try a bit harder to do that?

Personally think it should speak for itself but there you go...

monstrosity is a short-sighted assessment. many of us look at something like an e-type jaguar or an a4 locomotive (mallard, etc) or nicely executed cricket shot or a huge suspension bridge and marvel at its design and, often, beauty. they're the best of their type. i find wind turbines to be graceful and aesthetic.

I struggle to understand the negativity from some.

Sure, as the events unfold, there's liable to be a fair amount I have no real interest in, but so what?

Plenty of other people possibly will enjoy those things, and there's always the chance I catch one of the events I thought wasn't for me, and it opens up a whole new area for me.

We're 10 days in. So far, I think by any standards, it's got off to a cracking start, and it's certainly given the town a buzz, as well as a fair few visitors. I've heard little else but praise and pride.

I'm looking forward to what else is to come. They've set themselves a bloody high standard.

    What's not to like?

I think they shoulf have built a huge dome over the city centre and then use artifical weather, so could have a gorgeous blazing sunshine all year round in the centre
