But we certainly don't have previous in:
    A) Overpaying in January
    B) Paying extra for proven premier league (Long only example)
    C) Spending that sort've money (have never spent above 20m let alone 30m)
    D) Buying players in their prime, we tend to aim young

I'd like to see it happen but really doubt it.

You are quite right of course. But couldn't you have let me dream for just a few minutes longer? No doubt we'll sign Jylfi Sigurdsson, a potentially talented 16 year old for £3.4m. We certainly have previous there.

Our scouting department might already been in Iceland to see if anybody in Gylfi's gene pool is half decent. It's not a very big place <laugh>

    Ever the realist me!

However with all that said, we do have a history of buying just what we need, just when we need it and I believe Gylfi is just that.

Me too. If he was free, and played for free, I'd say we'd be mad not to consider it.

If he'd play for free, I'd go as far as saying we'll do a whip round!

I'd love him too, but have always felt that if Saints had wanted him, we'd have got him before he went to Swansea, or even pre-Spurs. I unfortunately don't think we're interested.

The definition of insanity is to keep on doing what you have been doing yet expecting different outcomes. We keep buying "potential". Maybe we should break the habit and go for a couple of players who could bring us a trophy.

    No, you're right. Stupid idea.

I see Costa as more your Spaghetti Western baddy. Ibrahimovic would probably be better as one of the 3 Musketeers. Not sure about Joe Allan. Never heard of a pirate called Joe.

Maybe Fonte wants to leave because it turns out the walkout song he was behind in helping write/make is absolutely atrocious and embarrassing.

Mate, I've supported Saint for over half a century and the last few years have been among the best - only the Lawrie years are a match. I wholly support our academy programme and our "Buy-em-young-and-cheap-and-sell-em-for-loads" policy. If you read any post of mine you'll see I like Puel and feel he needs to be supported. If we stick with him I think he'll turn out to be a real good 'un. I also think Les Reed is the best thing to happen to SFC for decades.

However, no business should stick slavishly to one policy no matter how well it has worked in the past or how well it may serve the club in the future. Pragmatism tells me that if the solution to our current blip is available then the club should consider it, even if it doesn't quite fit with current policy.

I almost certainly expressed this badly before, so apologies. It is certainly true that I know bugger all about what is currently happening except what I see as a fan, so my view can be dismissed as total bollocks!
