There was interest from United in the summer, but not to the point there was a bid. Think our valuation of him put them off

 

The Guardian's football podcast had an aside a few weeks ago about who were the players of the PL era up to now who you'd have in a gang of pirates - and absolutely no mention of Dani. Think they had Joe Allen as the leader, and Ibrahimovic, Costa and quite a few others - none of who really had as much pirate in them as the overwhelmingly obvious candidate.

 

Maybe a waste from all our point of view, but I reckon he was just unable to walk away from all the cash in a career he seemingly couldn't stand. Probably absolutely hated the profession and was miserable, but had to go through the motions while he was amassing a fortune.

 

Think the people of the self-governing Palestinian territory probably have more important things to comment collectively on.

 

Remember how we stood by Jose after those events. Seems like a long time ago now.

Think I just wet myself with excitement ... but I just can't see this happening.

He is exactly what we need but probably not worth £34m, not as if we would pay that anyway.

 

Sigurdsson seems a little old for us, although not ridiculously so, and we don't often shop in the Premier League.

That fee though...

 

How old is he? 27/28?

 

So if we bought him for £34m I take it we'd swap from "board have no ambition" to "the board are reckless" pretty quickly?

 

Haha this is very true. Can't please some people. Although whilst I think it is overpaying that is what you get in January. If he does well it won't really matter, just like Liverpool spending £36m on mane. He is their top scorer so it's justified.

 

Lots of rumours about us going in for Manolas of Roma to replace Fonte.

If, and I still don't think either will happen either now or in the summer, we sign sigurdsson and Manolas that would be a big statement in terms of the direction the board aim to take us. Two great players that would work for us.

But as I say, can't see the board forking out that much.

 

20 million sounds fair to me, but the again without him they are ****ed so they'll probably want 50!!

 

Worth £50M to Swansea.

 

Don't see it - Arsenal have tried to sign him a few times and if he was available at a price we could afford they would happily fork out. Also think Barca have a deal that they can sign him in the summer based on the Thomas Vermaelen loan deal.
