exactly. I said a couple of weeks ago that we should put the reserves out and see what falls, and if we went out we went out. I still think the League Cup and the Prem (in that order) are priorities this month. Not dissing the FA Cup, but it's the 3rd round, and if we threw the kitchen sink at it and were drawn away to one of the other top five teams anyway...

The disappointment is recognising that we, of all the top five/six teams have the weakest squad in depth - yes, more so than Arsenal and Spurs even. If we do finish in a CL berth this season, well we need a whole host of QUALITY signings (Mane standard) next summer. And we damn well need a few stock players before the end of this month; though if we leave until the last day we could be effectively out of three competitions by then.

Fair analysis. Good result and sure to be on TV again whenever the replay is.
I would say that you could feel disappointed in the 2nd half, we were so slow and lazy I feel you could have snatched a winner tbh.

One point. When there was the talk of having the reserve teams in the football league. Wasn't it suggested the kids teams would be placed in league 2?

You're insinuating Astro actually is sociable. I suspect he never leaves his mams house.

Nailed it. :emoticon-0148-yes: I think McManaman was a complete dickhead they way he kept decrying your outlook. It's noticeable that Klopp didn't - he put the blame on us (rightly) for not having the wit, guile and patience to break you down. If Klopp puts the same team out in ten days time against you (and he has to really) I think they'll struggle as you''ll attack them, you have a big centre-forward, midfielders who can use the ball, but, most importantly, the spaces that will afford for the counter attack will not really be exploited and finished by any of the team we had in the first hour today. If I were you I'd not only be grinning like a Cheshire Cat at a job well done, but seriously looking forward to a 50/50 chance of turning us over.

    Again, well done. <applause>

All kinds of crap has been muted about under 21 or 23 teams from the premiership being installed in the lowe leagues. I think it's bollox to be honest and should never ever even be talked about let alone happen. How fecking patronising does the FA need to be towards the lower reaches. I would never pay to watch a league match against any of those sides on pure principal.

You're far too level headed and articulate to be an opposition fan on our board: get off!

    Na, stick around mate....:emoticon-0148-yes:

I personally couldn't verify the result of that bet so it seems you have me at a disadvantage.......

C'mon you lot....someone go balls first! Surely you're favourites!

We have the ,by some way , the least depth in the 1st team squad we basically have 16 / 17 players (and Sakho but he is out injured due to piles caused by sitting on the naughty step for 6 months ) then untried u23 players. Whilst i like the fact that JK wont spend money unless he can get players he wants the paucity of the squad was always a worry particularly with the fact we look at our best when playing with high intensity.

Can you really see that happening? Apart from the practicalities, it doesn't seem to be Klopp's way does it?
The number of occasions where the squad players are going to be brought in en masse is very limited, and those occasions will be against "lesser" teams where they are likely to do ok, if not actually setting the world alight.
Some of them, brought into the first team will probably do a lot better with more experienced players around them.

We will need a reasonably sustained period of success before we're likely to persuade a host of quality players to come, unless they're all walking into the first team - in which case the current incumbents are demoted and it's all change yet again.

    Fair play.

I noted that your defence in prior rounds looked mean from results but that big cf looked like he'did a bit about him but he never got a kick and never tried to close down so that was orders. I agree, what you did was follow your plan.

On our players, basically that will be ejaria and ojo done imo. Ejaria especially. He's not done anything in 6 months since preseason where he looked neat and tidy in just as easy a game. He did nothing today.

Ojo ok was barely back from injury and a long one but he missed 3 sitters and it's not the first time he's done that especially off his head.

    Stewart... not great either.

Overall yes we failed to create a passing combo or anything bar getting in behind your left full look looks bit dim. What irritated me was origi who came to the ball all the time as I could see huge gaps to run into if anyone was looking forward. It was annoying.

Hopefully next time it will be a fight to the death

In the end we had 2 games in 48 hours during the week and then ended up with 5 first team injuries as well.

not a host of Mane type signings but a minium of 3 players who can come into first team with only a slight drop in quality overall.
admittedly basing it on today is pointless as it works best when you introduce a few players to the team rather than have a new team but this worry has been there all season.

As of now we have 3 midfielders for 3 places plus can so we surely need more there. We have coutinho and Mane wide and that's it with 4 guys for one slot so that must change soon.

The lb thing is well defined but I don't think it's disastrous.

One cb needed imo, at least one wide forward and 2 cms.
