I would compare Ian Rush more to Ruud Van Nistelrooy or that type of striker.

Ronaldo is miles ahead of Rush as a goalscorer.

my memory is flaky but the way i remember it was that it was harder to score don't forget if you had quick CB's you could play an offside trap near the halfway line (see Everton back in the day) ,you could kick lumps out of each other , the "professional" foul* didn't get you sent off during some of the period and most of all clubs actually had defenders who understood that their job was to defend rather than twat around looking clever,
I'm fairly sure the goal per game average is higher than it used to be in fact that is why Jimmy Hill pushed for 3pts for a win to encourage more attacking.

    * still remember Thommo raging after a pen given against him in League Cup final "Course it was outside the box im the ****ing England captain not an amateur so i'm not going to wait until he is in the box am i"
The FA charged him with bringing the game into disrepute <laugh>

You can watch the Cardiff v Fulham game on BBC sport page but it's not on TV?

    BBC One Wales mate <ok>

The crowd for the game is absolutely shocking, 80-90% empty I'd say.

Look at the stats mate. Ronaldo has 504 club goals in 693 appearances. Rush had 383 in 827 games.

Different eras, yes, but even if you compare them Vs the best of their time, Ronaldo has won the European golden boot x4 and the La Liga top scorer x3 despite competing against Messi, Barcelona, Argentina and La Liga's all time top goalscorer, Rush only won both once, and that was in the same season.

They only played two 'youngsters', Winks & Carter-Vickers. The rest of the team today where either first team or backup players who have all played in the Prem before.

Janssen looks like a flop of a buy. Think English clubs should stay away Dutch league top scorers.

Yep Janssen is making Niasse look like good value

Winks is talents but his game is run about dribbling going nowhere. He needs to learn a bit to be a good player.

    Tripper is good.

But it was a first team squad from spurs plus two players

We had stewart and I won't bad mouth him cos he made a game saving tackle but....

Ojo and ejaria were really poor. They had no urgency but worst of all was origi. Yeah Jan son looks bloody awful but... Origi wasn't bothered today.

Taa did ok for us, but needs to learn from this game that he can be more positive and demand a better pass.

I think the "wasn't bothered" mentality was a cancer in our team today. The kids controlled the game and had all the ball, but did nothing with it. Players should take the blame.

Woodburn had a few good moments, would like to see him mixed in with 1st team.

I agree. The tempo of passing was pish. There was no bother having ball or getting to final third but the amount of actual intelligence to pay a 1/2 or a through ball was non existent.

Our midfield options are frankly pish.

Lucas didn't even play cb for us he stood in midfield

I think a lot of our youngsters, and even back up players, showed that they are struggling with a lack of regular game time this season in the senior side. This is the huge downside of not having Europa League to play our youngsters and keep them sharp. The likes of Ejaria, Alexander-Arnold, Lucas, Moreno etc. just looked a yard off the pace to me.
