We did Sunday and again Thursday. Trinity Square will be a hot spot in spring/summer. If we have some decent weather it'll be a bit like one of the many beautiful squares in Florence. And no I've not had a drink...
I live in the Old Town and have been looking forward to this year ever since it was announced we had won. I feel privileged to live where I do but this week i've felt humbled by the sheer numbers that have been in the City Centre. The amount of people who have come to see ''We Are Hull'' has been staggering, easily the amount for Street Sesh and Freedom Festival combined. This is going to be a fantastic year and I hope all those who scoffed about 'Ull getting this realise what total twats they are.
I was at Kingston late 60s early 70s and I remember a very successful football team with a Captain by the name of Jeff Hemmermen who I think went on to play for City.
Angus Young... Good luck to all involved in the next big #MadeInHull project. It's totally different but still a guaranteed gobsmacker #LookUp To be announced early tomorrow apparently.
Visitors or local residents? I don't think 40,000 a day have come in and out of the city each day. Good to see such interest but the success of C of C will be judged on how many outsiders it attracts to the city.
Yep. Went straight from the match. Absolutely heaving. We came away at 7.30 and the queues coming into Prinny Quay area was ridiculous, backed up all the way to Smiff n Nephew. They should keep it on another week.
It is a genuine point, Chazz. Lambo said visitors. They weren't. At least most of them weren't. Great opportunity see so many people out and about in Hull instead of it being deserted but the idea is to attract people from elsewhere and the amount of those will determine it's success. They will be the ones bringing new money into the city's economy.
Just got home from Hull City Centre. Wow I could not believe it. The amount of people in the centre tonight was literally staggering. Now I expected it to be busy but not to this degree. One of the best nights I've ever had without being drunk ( well not quite ) only a few whiskeys and real ales.
If the 250,000 referred to were visitors then it would be 25 million over the year. Unlikely, don't you agree?
A shame it couldn't be like that more of the time. Which is true of just about any city in this country.
I understand your point, but in this instance I think the term 'visitor' is possibly misleading and 'attendees' is probably more accurate. I think the aim is to attract 1m people who wouldn't normally be out at events, rather than to attract 1m people who are all from other parts of the country/world. Realistically, we couldn't accommodate twenty thousand visitors a week, assuming a significant percentage would want to stay here, though attracting a lot of visitors from elsewhere is obviously one of the main aims. This week has attracted almost twice as many as expected, which is great, wherever they came from and they have come from elsewhere (I went to Tapasaya after watching Made In Hull on Thursday and the table next to me had come from Ireland specifically to be at the opening event).
