    Exactly. It's a celebration that he's broken ( or equally but about to break) a **** record. At a club like Man Utd, the record should be much higher. I think most clubs record scorer record is higher.

    I'd hate someone like Rooney to be leading the way at Anfield. Much like I wouldn't have liked Suarez to lead the charts despite having the quality needed.

    I said the same thing then too.

    The International record is different though, much more pointless **** friendless against second rate teams help boost figures. Just ask Crouch ;)

    TBF a record like this is more bout longevity than efficiency, I would imagine the leading scorer in most clubs is either a striker or AM that has been one of that clubs longest serving players.

    <laugh>

    Or....why does only equalling a far inferior scoring record than that of others from different clubs merit the bigging up in the press?

    not sure what Rooney is meant to be now but my point stands and if you want to be serious Charlton also played for some poor ManU teams

    PS some years ago there was a thread put on our respective boards asking which player over the years from the opposing team you wished has played for theirs.
    One of yours said too much laughter (from both boards to be fair) "wouldn't want any ****ing scousers anyway none would make our team" <doh>
    actually it was a fun thread & had some interesting discussions particularly re talent against fit for the team

    249 vs 346 (Ian Rush)
    Even our 2nd highest is still higher, Hunt with 286.

    Picked out some of the other big clubs;
    Arsenal: 228 (Henry)
    Citeh: 177
    Chelsea: 211 (Lampard!)
    Everton: 383 (Dean)
    Spurs: 266 (Greaves)

    I think we should all respectfully applaud the ould fart for getting this record. Utd can now get shut of him.

    You are right, lampard at cheslea is a prime example

    City are such a johhny come lately (like city) that their leading scorer was only 177 (eirc brook)

    Arsenal's is henry at 228 which is more impressive as he got to go off to a real club <whistle> and score and win trophies there. prior to that ian wright too kit in my time from bastion.

    at Lest at both LFC and Utd the records were held by legends who delivered in their time. Hunt has a massive amount on 285 and then this was passed by ian rush and extended to 346.

    to put rush in context raul at real has 323 for real and ronaldo passed him to 381

    Messi has 477.

    Those are the two most unbelievable legendary goal scorers of our times. That how good rush was.

    Like I said above, it's more about longevity than efficiency. We have had a fair few players that would have smashed that record had they played the same number of games for the club, just in recent times (that younger posters will know) we have had RvP, RvN and Ronaldo, given the same number of games Rooney has played I think all of them would have done much more.

    i think because he comes over as a bit of a twat people forget how good Charlton was. He would be worth his weight in gold today.
