Ouch, not sure which of their goals is worse. Bad enough that Lewis takes an awful touch, but then what is he doing afterwards chasing after, and tackling, Jerome like that. And then the second goal, all those defenders back in the penalty box, and yet still Naismith has yards of empty space right in front of the goal. I don't want to be too harsh on Lewis, because he's a kid making his debut, but does anyone have any clue when McCarthy will be back? I'm not sure the club has said anything. If it's properly serious, then we've got to look at the loan market this month.
Good post and like I say it was more of a general point. It does depend on current situations of clubs I think. I don't remember being too interested when we were top 2 in the Championship in January 2012. Wednesday is certainly massive, really can't wait...
Both Norwich goals should not be happening. Lewis, yes he's young, has to be clearing that. The second goal, speechless.
Funny that people talk about it "only" being the FA cup. I think a more appropriate phrase would be: It is "only" the FA cup 3rd round. There is a monumental difference. If we got to the FA cup semi's all of you would be nursing a bloody semi! After all the biggest moment in our history was winning this competition. Whereas getting knocked out in the 3rd wouldn't hurt all that much. Exactly the same for the league cup this season. Liverpool is a huge game and we are all buzzing for it. However we wouldn't have been that fussed if we'd have been knocked out in the early rounds. It still matters. It's still huge to 99% of clubs, still pretty big to the top clubs too. It's just it only really becomes important when you think you have and reasonable chance of lifting it.
Same here, I'm not going because I'm back at Uni, but from what I've heard the atmosphere at home is toxic.
Exactly right. Hence my follow-up post to TLL where I mentioned about it being different if we were deeper into the competition.
Didn't see that before I posted but completely agree. It's no surprise really. I'm not disappointed when I don't win the lottery but if I was one number away from £10m I'd be a bit gutted!!
Couldn't agree more and it frustrates me massively. Everyone slates the LC as mickey mouse etc. Yet if we miraculously get through plenty of people will go to the final as their first game in the competition and there will be people who went to the early rounds who will miss out. That's football I suppose.
Oh yes, I'm still living in hope. I think Les should look at the amount of games as he assess if we should bring in reinforcements. We need help.
It is a shame. If we won the league cup this season it would be the definitive moment of the Liebherr era and would look back on it as huge! I'd like to think at Wembley that although we would sell out, pretty much anyone who desperately wanted a ticket and tried as soon as they were on sale would get hold of one.
By the way, we'd have had an extra game to play even without that Norwich goal. Yes we've now got a game in between Burnley and Leicester, but we might yet have a break between Liverpool and Swansea now (a break which Swansea themselves do have, after their defeat today). It'll be interesting who we get drawn against on Monday. If it's away to Man Utd or Chelsea etc, I think I'd like Puel to rest the whole lot of the first XI in the replay.
Oooooooo...both of the goals we conceded. At least we got some shots on target I suppose. The touch of an elephant by Lewis and then trip someone up who is running away from goal - I don't care if he is young, surely it is commonsense not to do that? Even in Sunday Morning Football you'd get a strip torn off you, let alone this level The second goal just beggars belief. Next up Liverpool, they're rubbish aren't they? I think if we get a 0-0 in the first leg that'll be a great result. The away leg will be a 3-0 loss, much like the last time we played them in the League Cup semi-finals. At least Koeman reverted to cup form for Everton anyway.
Martina and McQueen for Virgil and Bertrand. And then a kid for Tadic. (When they're all available, we can always afford to play two of JWP, Davis, PEH and Clasie, because the other two can then come in for the next game. We'd "only" need to rest the entire planned starting XI vs Leicester, not the subs as well)
Congrats on the red and whites today outplaying their championship opposition away from home but having to settle for a 2-2 draw in the end
I said recently that despite all the negatively we're potentially 3 results away from the best season ever for a whole generation of Saints fans. Bizzare.
