Hopefully Countinho isn't fully fit then if he plays against us, what's news on Sturridge & Henderson?

I bloody hope so mate <laugh>

The way I see it is we're not gonna challenge for Europe like you say and we're not (barring a huge collapse) going to go down either so no reason to not go all out imo. Puel has played weakened sides in cups so far but surely will change that for a semi.

Be interesting to see our team tomorrow against Norwich, I'm hoping Virgil & Romeu get a rest at minimum. I'd go fringe & youth entirely personally but we'll see.

West Ham are really crap. City have not got out of 2nd gear and they are 4-0 up.

I was going to point out the Tommy Tynan article to you all but I see you have already posted it on here. Tommy is now 61. I am 67 and used to take my son when he was little to watch Tommy in his hayday. He was a brilliant goal scorer and in my opinion the best striker I ever saw never to play at the top. Why he didn't I have no idea because his record speaks for itself. I still take the boy even though he's 40 now and we still talk about Tynan from time to time. He never earned anything like even Argyle players of today earn. When he finished playing he went into the Pub trade but it didn't last. He has been driving a Cab around Plymouth for a long time now. When we signed Tynan we could have signed John Aldritch at the same time. We passed on him for some strange reason and the rest for him is history as they say.

I watched the televised match tonight with some interest. Is that how good the premiership is? West Ham need to be worried if that was the best they could do. If we lost 5 - 0 away I wouldn't feel quite so bad now given that result. Well I would but you know what I mean. If we were losing like that at least our supporters wouldn't all go home early like theirs. We have sold out and probably could have sold another 5000 if we were given them. Janners do like a day out.

West ham have thrown every cup since bilic came in.

They didnt really try v utd in the keague cup and theyve twice thrown the europa.

Imo they seriously are a disgrace and deserve their bribed big stadium and in two seasons you might get to play there in the league!

But yeah... theres a serious lack of care over the cups in the prem and really on sunday we will be playing the dregs by the sound of it.

When you see lucas at cb youll get my meaning.

Ojo isnt to bad but hes not kicked a ball in near 12 months due to a back injury.

Alexander arnold is 18 and moreno... well god hes.... well... you will see.

Then theres the keeper with the great hair....

And the midget cm from spurs.

I think the fa should pass a rule stating no weakened teams or you get a point deducted.

I thought David (Syd) James had retired. It's a tradition you have keepers with "hair".

We had one of your old keepers once for a period. Old Bruce Grobelar. He used to go walk about up the wing down here as well but by the time he played for us his zimmer got stuck in the mud and he couldn't get back between the sticks again.

The thing about weakened teams is that it is subjective. The Manager can quite rightly state that in his opinion the players are not weaker just a different set when it comes to the premiership. You have to name 25 as a squad at the start of the season don't you. A lot of clubs in league 2 are lucky if they can afford to have 25 players in total. The reason smaller outfits play their first 11 on occasions like this is that you would have a riot from the first string if they got left out of a chance to play a big club on the tele. Your first string probably couldn't care less if they played or not. It's a different world when you get paid £60k take home a week minimum and you have a 4 year contract. Ours probably get on average around £1k to maybe £1200 a week for the better players.

Just to play for my home town team would have been enough for me luvgonzo but then again that's a supporter talking rather than somebody who ever had anywhere near enough talent to do it. To the ordinary Joe Soap £1200 a week sounds great and of course it is but in football terms it really is well down the pecking order. When a premiership keeper who is the third back up gets at least between 5 and 10 times that for not even keeping a bench warm then it puts it into perspective. If somebody up the road had been getting more per week than I got in a year to do basically the same job then I would have been a bit hacked off. We have the second/third best supported club in our league and get 3 times the gates some clubs do. I suspect some clubs pay their players a lot less than we do. Also, it has become normal to give a one year contract at best. There is little security in the lower leagues.

TBH £60000.00 pa seems a fairly high wage for say the 1500 best footballer in England but as a percentage of the wages of top league players the gap is widening year on year.

It's not that your wages are too low, it's that the others are obscenely high. <ok>

In fairness to ask a young lad to give his best 10 years of life for that wage then tell him chuff off at the end aint exactly great long term.

You'd like a young lad to finish playing with his house paid for outright at least (if hes sensible)

These days its possible in the lower championship i think.

We now know that grujic and Henderson are out as well

    Midfield could be interesting.

There's a case to me to see lucas at cm here at this point.

Given supply and demand you would think that the wages would be lower rather than higher these days. The premeirship imports it's team in the main buying in a proven player rather than developing it's own. Big turn around from history but that's the way it is. Sky has done this to that league. Thing is though that it releases more players to the lower reaches it probably wouldn't have got years ago. The clubs nearer the bottom cannot afford loads of players so there should be more players to fit less vacancies. Ergo they should be cheaper. That's the theory anyway but to keep some of these players in the game the lower clubs have to pay them for the privelege. You can earn a grand a week as a plumber these days. Have you had to hire one recently? So the better the quality that filters down the more they cost rather than less. Unless you are a league 2 club and that is the extent of your ambition of course. Our turnover for an entire season is probably around £3.5m. Until recently we were paying off debt caused by our Administration a few years back and that came out of that total. A close(ish) league 2 side to you, Accrington, have gates around 25% or our's. You do the sums with what they survive on. But, it's the way it is so no good moaning about it. It is part of the reason I don't normally have any interest in the top league though.

more money comes in from foreign tv rights than home tv rights. There is a rat race to pay more money as frankly a no name side in manchester got bought by arabs of a thai corrupt politician and sunk 300k per week to attract "stars"

It is a spiralling system drive by agents and greed and yes you are right. LFC must relase just about every kid it tries to develop but the problem is those kids have been stalked by agents and wags since they were 10 and there are kids today turning down 4k a week cos some other club at 17 will give them 10k.... and so the stuff that filters down unfortunately are spoiled rotten and actually not really able for it.

I doubt many kids that go through city's shiny 7k all seater u23 stadium and academy could cut it in the culture shock of a league 1 decrepit club.

I really have to wonder sometimes.... and i just wonder about young lads like this youg lad everton just bought off chalrton or vardy or joe gomez in that they may just be made of sterner stuff..... and would be more able to go on to be top players. Or delle alli.

I'd be interested to see what you think of our 3 young lads

I predict our line up will be

    Karius (the model)
Alexander arnold Lovern Klavan Moreno (the idiot)
    Stewart Lucas Can
    Ojo Origi Ejaria
    Woodburn to sub on.

What will you think of Alexander arnold at RB, Ojo at RW (from milwall) and Ejaria (not a winger btw) from arsenal

I hope woodburm comes on but he's 17 and local.
