Back in the day footballers were underpaid and some progress needed to be made, but the pendulum has swung way,way too far the other way.
I suppose many younger people, brought up in the era of multi-millionaire players are so used to it they don't realise just how wrong it all is.

Yes I think thats about it.

maybe back in the 1990s when john barnes had 10k a week or whatever he was set for life wasn't he?

I mean a 5 year deal at 10k = 2.6mil before tax. it made a millionaire plus you could think about coaching and have a job.

Now its madness and eating itself. an average 19year old gets that, then lives it up, pisses it up against a wall on falsh cars etc and shows NO interest in coaching etc.

Carragher is a great example. legend.. but 90k per week? 4mil a year off sky? its pretty nuts.

The gap to the average man is obviously 100x their annual wages so the disconnect is real. but most of all these guy are in likelyhood going to see a LOT of ruddocks and gascoignes waddling about or dropped dead.

The start of it all was before the intervention of said Australian twat he just accelerated the process.
The clubs & ITV were the prime movers but the Aussie twat realised football was the perfect driver to expand the spread of satellite telly . This led to the exponential rise in TV income allowing the clubs to act like a set of intestines though not efficient ones as very little of the money was digested instead it just sped thru them into hands of players & agents .

PS i seem to remember live Football on telly preceding the PL by a few years on both ITV & BBC . Some games were Friday nights - though my memory is about as good as Diegos <whistle>

my view is the ynaks were paying mad money before it on nba and baseball and NFL so were the italians (no tax etc etc) so I think it was inevitable that the rewards grew but at this point the product delivered (especially at city) doesn't meet the fee demanded. 300k per week for kicking a pig skin?

FFS ronaldo when he went to real was a 5 year, this will break even deal to get a star on shirt sales etc. there no ****ing way all of city's stupid wages to so many playhers is justifiable nor desirable

I would fully support an salary budget per club just as they now have in nba, mls etc in yankland. the yanks have get outs etc but you pay one guy a lot then you have to play someone else faff all.

I would be perfectly happy to see one player at lfc on 300k if he was gods gift but the rest would have to be on 30-70 k or whatever to allow for it. this pay parity crap that peopel come out with is just... faff off ffs.

Talented winger Sheyio Ojo was with the first team, having played for a half in the U23s' 6-0 victory over Bangor on Wednesday night.

Joe Gomez looked full of beans ahead of a possible fairytale return to Anfield on Sunday, 16 months after his last appearance, while Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ben Woodburn and Ovie Ejaria were all involved ahead of a possible appearance in the FA Cup.

    On the fa cup.....

For me the magic of the cup is not from its age or the day any more.

    It's

    A) throws up great ties early on when the big boys may meet a minnow

    B) it's a last chance to do something in the season. Like if you are city and arsenal with nothing to play for.

    FA Cup is dead really.

Just gets in the way of the league.

Only take notice should we get near the final or if we are drawn United.

Lost its glamour that's for sure.

Pretty much. I actually think the Capital one cup has overtaken it recently.

I would agree with that too.

Isn't trying to be something it isn't.

I'd scrap one of the two personally.

Problem with fa cup is it starts right after the busiest time of year so players are rested early rounds. Then the rest of the rounds are at a time where a lot of clubs are either focusing on not getting relegated or going up / fighting for title or Europe and that always takes priority.

Will be keeping an eye on your team selection for this one. Should be able to guess what sort of team you'll be bringing down to us next week.

You've changed almost your whole team for League cup so far this season haven't you?

Now it's semi I'm expecting the wholesale changes for Sunday and a mixture for our game before the United match.

I imagine the FAC is probably still a big thing for lower clubs, and part of the attraction is to play a juicy, lucrative tie against the big guns. I don't think it's fair of said big guns to just dismiss it as a worthless distraction.

I imagine it will be a complete change for Argyle and then half and half for yourselves, as long as we keep you in touch we can hopefully get back in the tie at Anfield.

What kind of team you reckon you'll put out? Surely strongest possible with trio to final at stake and fact you're kind of just mid table this season and at the moment, doesn't look like getting into Europe via league positions.
