The last main striker Shane Long from the Championship that was on the market or available this summer has now signed for WBA in a deal rumoured to be 4.5m rising with add-ons to possibly 6.5m Reading have now got around 3 weeks to re-invest their money. Watford on the other hand sold early, receiving 3.5m with which they have been able to take action in a number of off field areas such as pitch maintenance, the East corner and probably debt management but the main area to benefit has been the team with increased squad numbers coming in to bolster the wafer thin squad and based on last weekends first outing they have a chance of competing well in the division. When you look now at the prices achieved and the timings of the sales of the main centre forwards sold over the summer, I feel we did good business by selling Graham early. What do you guys think? Shane Long 4.5m + add-ons Danny Graham 3.5m Dj campbell 1.2 m Ishmail millar 2m Leroy lita 1.75 David goodwillie 2m all + add-ons of course
Sign another 3 or 4 what? Dyche is just about done, he is looking for forward options but no names spring to mind. Everyone would like some quality like Taylor and Mutch or Lansbury and Cleverly - we have bodies but little quality IMO.
By the way DG was all cash no add-ons. When the backers call on Baz to produce cash next summer, there will be none from DG or WB. Next summer's cash will come from new sales that is why DG's fee seems "generous".
Yes i think overall we got a fair price, compared to Millwall getting £3m for Steve Morrison, £3.5m does seem about right. The thing is, if Graham scored 5 goals next season it would be a bargain, but if he scorers 20, it looks like Swansea have mugged us off a bit. That's just the way it goes, but I am happy with £3.5m. Still need 1 more striker though in my opinion and then we'll be done for the summer and we would have a good enough squad to survive in my opinion
I think £3.5m is a very good deal for us, especially with the clause he had, but it can also turn out to be a bargain for Swansea if he turns it on in the Prem. I just hope they give him time to settle and not drop him if he has a couple of non-effective games!
Exactly, thats why we still need more signings. We know we're going to need to sell 2 or 3 of the better more developed players so need double bubble on these.
Yep, when you throw in the add-ons, Millar and Goodwillie will be worth as much as Graham if they are activated. And I'd back Danny to activate hypothetical performance based add-ons over any of the other strikers in that list, hence my frustration at a £3.5m cash deal. EDIT: Credit where it's due though, the strategy of selling early and buying early was the correct one.
