Koeman has just given young Holgate a massive new contract, and I've seen enough of both of them to know that they'll make it. Not surprising that a Chavski fan knows **** all about judging youth players in fairness though
holgate looks quite a decent player yes. Stones came and went and probably best for all. (bit of a needs to learn he's not messi head on him) So whats a successful window for everton look like? theres far too many that look like fake or silly links for me to sort out but morgan sneiderlin looks a real target, is depay one too? who esle are the real targets?
Well to be fair i always said Stones is overrated. And guess what he's gone for 50m and looked terrible at City as well as for Everton last year. No where near World Class yet. As for your Everton players, Browning and Galloway looked decent and had many more appearances, they are no where to be seen at the moment. Then you have the great hope of Barkley which i've said has been overrated from day 1. Theres still time for him but its not been promising so far (just a solid prem player, not the world beater predicted yet). Then you have all those everton talents of past which - baxter, anichebe, Garbutt, Rodwell, Vaughan who were all hyped up and whilst 2 of them have been average Prem footballers (still a feat) the others have disappeared.
We made nearly £40m profit on Stones, so I'd say that was a cracking deal personally. Assuming Schneiderlin arrives (and I think he will) I'd be happy with that. Deuloufeu seems almost certain to leave as Koeman seemingly doesn't fancy him, he's not even made the bench in the last couple of weeks, so that would suggest that the Depay rumours are maybe accurate. Not sure about that one, as he's a massive bell end off the pitch I'm told. However, he's got quality as he's shown for PSV and Holland, just not so much at United. I'd prefer that to be a loan with a first option to buy in the summer, and that way the lad would have to prove himself. I can see us spending big on a CB, with Jags maybe leaving to join Moyes Beyond that I've no idea, but Koeman said he wanted 5 new faces, so maybe a striker and a keeper?
You've gone off at a tangent, we were talking about youngsters we've bought, not home growns. Whatever your personal view of Stones is, is irrelevant we got nearly £50m back for him after paying less than £3m. Galloway is out on loan at WBA, the others listed came through our academy barring Garbutt who we bought as a 16 yr old and I thought he'd make it tbh, but is currently out on loan at Wigan.
If you are basing success on your players on the profit you've made rather than if they are making you a force, then you're going to have to count loads of successes . It's a fact that Stones (well more martinez) was part of your poor season last year and part of Citys inability to keep CS (some of thats on pep). On the basis of making money, then Oscar is the biggest success, might as well chuck in Ibe, Brad Smith, Shelvey and Assaidi as big successes for pool made them loads of money. and KDB and Lukaku and Ramires.
I know it was about buying youth players from other players but i'm saying you can't exactly judge Holgate or Lewin properly (although i have said holgate has looked good and lewin hasn't shown much about him in the few appearances) because it's only been a few appearances. The following youth players i've all mentioned didn't look too shabby in their first initial appearances. Anyway, my views on stones from a footballing point of view isn't wrong. He's been a shocking defender even if he did go for 50m which financially was a success for everton which totally contradicts your point of view of me being a chavski fan and not knowing anything (a direct debate we had exactly this time last year when chelsea wanted to buy him and i said no thanks). going for a large sum of money doesn't make a player good/world beater - See any City defender
Put your dick away ffs. We were talking about Everton's success in buying players from the lower leagues and whether Lookman was a gamble or not.
And you were crowning Holgate and Lewin on the way to being successes which i've pointed out isn't true. You then decided to make it personal so i've had to take my dick out .
I reckon perosnally Stones and sterling fall in the same bucket. City are thick enough and those tow have thought themselves far better than they actually are so seeing city milked for 100mil combined for players worth far less is always nice. Everotn have not yet got a proper cb in. at least LFc sloshed the stelring money about on firmino and/or benteke they are good business deals. the original discussion here was risk and not about whether a player succeeds and it was actually me who mentioned that everton couldn't lose on this new young lad cos someone will buy him for 7mil. player turnover is just a fact of life. cheslea have actually had a relatively lucky time of it. But if i was being honest i would have to say cheslea have done VERY WELL FINANCIALLY out of their hoarding of talent and loaning it out but have done very poorly relatively in terms of actually building a team out of it. they all seem to be taught to be mercenaries and have no cheslea loyalty at all. exmaples: courtois was first guy with his hand up to leave when it fell apart last year. Lukaku... that christensen lad who's suppsodely marked as terry replacement... no interest in it. Bamford, Kalas (looked decent) and the list goes on and on. tremendous model right up to the point where you realise cheslea never really get a player from it but rather end up having to buy more and more players for first team. I'd rather be selling the envitable one or two to real/barca or even city han be horse trading in player flesh constantly ........................................ LFC examples Ilori. Loaned 3/4 times. now to be sold to reading for 3.75mil. a break even if theres no payments to make up his fee to the mooted 7mil final figure as part of sale. He and sakho (a different issue) and caulker (pointless loan have effectively blocked the development of young LFC players (not that they were all that mind) for 6/12 months. Tom brewiit and cory whelan have not got game time in u23s really as a result Ilori sakho and gomez have. so... we can bascially write them off as defenders for LFC ever 9not that i wasn not expecting that anyway) Its all well and good laoning out 20 plyaers a season but if you then can't bring one eletie talent through your academy something is VERY wrong. LFC have now managed TAA and woodbrun up to u23s and a few senior games. We have brannagan hwo i don't really think is up to it as well. We bought ejaria from arsenal on a free. stewart is a pic up out of spurs. Ojo we picked up from milwall or some place. but at least here we cna look at these guys and decide to move them on or use them in firsts LFC have 3/4 players who are preet decent guys who might make the greade at champ or prem level only time will tell but thats better than 20 mercenary players who won't dig in when the chips are down. TAA and woodburn will the the best hope for a while (2/3 years) of a local lad done well here. If we add 2/3 others who came in their teens like ejaria and ojo to that list then it REALLY makes a difference. (and in my case i hope it makes enough difference that 70mil is sitting in a bank for our anfield road end development)
If you can find many reports on Holgate from the U23's then I would be surprised. Unsworth struck a deal with the press to play down the hype on him. All noises coming from Goodison are that he is the biggest talent outside of the first team. Only making 5 appearances is no way to judge a player, if so then people would only judge Stones on his first few outings alongside Alcaraz.
Not sure what is the better deal, a £22m link a year for shirts or a Russian Billionaire sponsoring the training ground ;-)
totally agreed, you cannot lose in buying young talent at 5m-10m nowadays from younger leagues who have done well. Mugs will always take them off your hands for a few million and you'll not lose too much. The only thing i would say about this is that whilst financially this is okay, if that impacts on you buying for the first team, then its something you'll need to consider.
And thats my point, Tobes have already crowned Holgate and Lewin as the next big things going and pretty much astrolike said they will be successes. I've said it's too early to tell
coleman was a massive bargain. If we were to be looking at bargains in the prem currently surely this would be a list of them Schmeichel (1mil) Coleman (70k) Matip (free) rose (1mil) Ramsey (5mil) Gueye(7mil) Alli (5M) Mahrez (400K) Ibrahimovic (Free) Vardy(1il) Leicester have 3 of them spurs have a long history of this. walker rose (much maligned player there) alli, kane, alderwierld (robbed him) dier really it just goes to show that ok yes get that one big name start but the model chased by city of mega signings is lazy produced no team ethic and is a failure in the longer term. I think we all love a bargain.
Have you watched his games? Trust me, you would watch and know he will be something special. As I said, not many U23 managers strike deals with the press to divert attention from certain players
Theres always a desperate club in the lower half If theres a clear slot in the squad and u23s for a guy to develop in its fine but yes you need to have the first 11 at least pretty sorted to be splurging a third or whatever of the transfer fund on long term projects
