Feel bad for Mike but anyone else think these are exciting times?

    4-3-3 can be quite attacking.

I can't think of any British managers who play 4-4-2.

Of course. You won't see me complaining about it being an incorrect formation. But the first time we lose playing it, people will be moaning that we OBVIOUSLY need two centre forwards and Silva is the only one who can't see it. God help us if he favours a style of keeping the ball and building from the back.

Not many managers of any nationality do in the PL. Although Sean Dyche is the notable one.

433 can work well if the players are coached to use it correctly and are fit enough. I have a feeling we might find that our fitness levels are relatively poor. He will be looking for the mid-field 3 to support the 3 up front when attacking but get back into shape as soon as they lose the ball. Also the front 3 to press the defence, to get the ball back quickly. I suspect to do this they will have to get the fitness levels up.

If we're going to press as a team that'd be great. It's really frustrating to watch, particularly on TV, when we drop off and concede that we'll have barely any possession. However I think the reason we do that is more a lack of confidence in the team to compete by squaring up to our opposition than it is about fitness. I'd have thought we were one of the fittest sides. We have Robertson and Elmo out wide, Jake and Meyler who speak for themselves, and Diomande up front is a workhorse too.

Personally I think 4-3-3 is the biggest lie peddled to the football watching public. Of every PL team we're told play 4-3-3, none of them do. They all play 4-5-1 or 4-3-2-1.

I think some people are getting a little over excited just because we have an exciting young manager coming in. we need to be realistic it's too late to win the title now this season. We'll need to be satisfied with both domestic cups and a top ten finish. Next season we can talk about the title and European silver wear.

Could be, but we seem to not keep the levels up for 90+ minutes, as we are conceding late goals. It is probably a combination of both those things, there is no doubt confidence seems to evaporate once we concede, though we have come back from being down one or two occasions this season. TWT as our dear departed friend FT would say.

Edit: I have always felt that in games we sit too deep in defence, and the distance between the back line and the midfield when defending is too wide, and opposition get between the 2 lines. I think we will see the backline pushing up and when defending the back line and the mid field closer together, which makes it harder for team to penetrate us.

We seem to have gaps right across the field.
Midfield is to far back so no link to front line.
Defence to far away from midfield as you say.Defence dropping back crowds Marshall with the disaster recent consequences.
I think it is down to mobility/speed throughout the spine of the team.

That's why I said I think we might find our fitness levels are not as good as they should be. But also that is coaching, getting the team back into the right shape when they lose the ball, which I don't think we have been doing.

Attackers one of our weaknesses, what about the really poor defence? How many goals conceded is it now?

Just to back your point up, we've scored just as many as Boro but they've conceded exactly half the amount of goals we have.

You think alot about what others think. It might be better if you thought more about what you think. Try keeping what you think coupled with the context of starting elevens, substitutions, first and second half performances and, eventually, results. It's becoming ****ing tedious having to read your endless criticisms of fellow board members. We have never kicked a ball to change anything at Hull City, but we know something wasn't right.

I do like the 5-3-2 or 3-5-2 formation as it's very easy to create overloads when attacking or defending.

You do need 3 reliable centre halves though.

I am not really fussed what system the new manager players, I think whatever system we play whether it's 1, 2 or 3 up top doesn't really matter if they go out with the intent to sit back. We can play with one up top but if we allow midfield players to make runs to support him, and allow the wingers to run beyond the defence in the hope he wins a flick on it doesn't matter. Systems make very little difference, it's the intent they go out with.

Let's try and go down in a blaze of glory, go out and try and win every game, forgetting trying to scrap for a point lets aim high. At least it will be entertaining.

we only have to be better than 3 other teams.
under MS, we can do that, no sweat.
I predict Swansea, Boro and Sunderland to go down.
