All nice and negative on Humberside - blimey, we're a miserable lot sometimes. I feel sorry for Phelan but I also felt the season was going to drift from now in with nothing much to discuss other than how soon we would get relegated and how many players would leave in the summer. Both of these might still well happen and indeed it will need a fairly remarkable new manager bounce to get much from the next 5 games. But I think it will be very interesting to see what impact this guy has so yes I'm excited. And trying to judge each individual decision the Allams make on its merits rather than just blanket criticism of everything, I think they are probably right to take a chance here, and dare i say it, have done well to get him in. This doesn't mean I agree with much else they've done in the last 4 years.
I do feel for MP because every man and his dog expected us to be relegated this season and for obvious reasons. Huge off the field problems (Allam) and massive on the field problems(13 fit professional footballers). We were 100% expected to be where we are right now, in fact even worse. But still, Phelan gets sacked. Still. We're running out of time and we need to move on.
Arms formally folded. Brow slightly furrowed. Lips lightly pursed. Foot gently tapping. Eyebrows imperceptibly raising. Fingers rythmically tapping. 'Ok Marra, you've got the gig, you've cleared the decks, your arse fits the swivel-chair, you've brought all your friends to the party, so show us what you can do'. I await with interest.
I've gone from 100% sure of relegation to 80 so guess that is optimism ... I don't feel sorry for Phelan , as others have said he knew what he was getting into and probably just got paid off 20 years of my wage , bet he's having better than Birdseye chicken burgers for tea tonight .... We don't have a great squad but it's a hell of a lot better than some of our displays showed , and looking forward to seeing what style of football is going to be on offer
As I said on another thread, bad decisions, bad transfers if he had anything to do with them & bad team selection on numerous occasions. Only himself to blame. Seems a good bloke & im sure he'll get another job sooner rather than later. I'm not sure about the performances of late as only when McDonald came in did we change, & he still continued with Marshall after changing everything else.
Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. God help us.. Allams OUT
sorry but I am more bothered about what is happening on the pitch, it is of no concern of mine what happens behind the scenes.
During last season there were a couple of favourite topics, such as being promoted under SB and then getting relegated under SB; anĂ²ther was the owners doing their best to ruin the club whilst trying to sell it. Why don't we park those for now? It certainly is real that some sort of sale process is in place; AP just about verified that and all indications point to it. MP was never a permanent fixture; he was given a chance and he biffed it. That's football, move on. His replacement is the most professional piece of work this club has conducted since SB came in. Silva has a good, even very good pedigree, he is bringing in an established support team which is something we lacked of late. Why not chill and give him a chance, he deserves that much. He has a very difficult job on his hands, good luck to him.
It will be interesting to see what players he can pull in and what areas he wants to strengthen. We all know the areas of weakness within the team, being an outsider he might see it differently. I do like the fact he's brought in his entire support team he's previousy worked with, that may play a significant part.
It's a whole set of new, professional eyes scrutinising our club and I welcome that. There is another factor I haven't seen discussed: he is of an age with EA, he seems to be linked through mutual friends, so maybe, just maybe, he might be listened to by EA like his old man once listened to Bruce. That might make the parting more palatable.
