Jenas (ex mag) is in the paper today, saying defoe would like to be back in London, and how he would make up for leaving West ham years ago by going to Spurs, bullcrap. They paid over the top for carroll about £21m too much so £50 m please for Jamine or get knotted.
tbh I'm surprised no one else has been in for him, he'd get games for every EPL side, maybe not first choice in the top 6, but someone with the goal-scorers touch will never be out of fashion, he's younger than Larsson was when he went to Man U
What price relegation? That's what selling him would entail, so West Ham can start the bidding at £20m+ or **** off. We might be able to get some firepower for that kind of money, but selling him at this point makes less sense than Garth Crooks on acid...
My mag mate has just come in showing a picture (jpeg) of a "Skysportsnewshq" tweet saying he's on his way after we accepted a £13m bid - there's nothing on the SSN site though so poor attempt at a wind up
He's not clever enough to photoshop it! I'll stone the person that did though. Just hope Defoe remains unaffected by it - not really "head turning" going to West Ham is it - he's tea-total so the social aspect doesn't impact him. He's come out and said he likes the "slower" way things are in the North East compared to London - he's a hero/legend already for SAFC which he wouldn't be for West Ham and they're fighting relegation as well - albeit in better stead than us but not by a massive margin considering their last season. Also - Defoe is a Sunderland player - why is Bilic allowed to talk about him in this way? Thought they had rules to prevent this happening?
Short would be mad to take less than £30M. Current relegation odds give you a 35% chance of survival at the moment, with Defoe in the team. Assuming that relegation will cost you £90M, that this is your only chance to sell Defoe (worst case), and that you'll definitely get relegated without him (as most of you seem to be saying) the expected value of keeping him in the team is £31M. Bit steep for a 34 year old, but that's what he's worth to you. Even if we're generous and assume you have a 10% chance of staying up without him, he's still worth £22M+. So, West Ham's only realistic option is to try to unsettle the player enough that he seems likely to force a move/refuse to play, thus dropping the odds of you staying up if you don't sell. Which is precisely what they're doing. Honestly, I'd prefer you to stay up this season. Several bitter derby match memories need erasing before you can go down.
If you'd seen Newcastle in the last few matches you may realise that a Sunderland relegation may be needed to have the chance to erase derby memories.
I know, right - 25 shots, ball in the net twice and we still didn't beat them. Poor all round. Still, take Defoe out of your team, and that's about as much as you've had all season...
Good post mate.....West Ham and others such as pundits are definitely trying to unsettle him. If worst case scenario is going to happen then I think they will get Defoe to hand in a hand written transfer request. That would put the club in public opinion wise in the fall out in a better position. I'm like every Sunderland fan would think it would be a disaster if he went and I personally don't think he will as I have already stated. This is something like six seasons now we have been in fire fighting mode to survive. Then I thought well what happened in the other four seasons Defoe wasn't with us and we got by with the likes of Altidore, Wickham, Fletcher and Graham to survive? It's doable either way because one player shouldn't make a team in theory. There will be a point where Sunderland will sell. We know every player has a price. I hope that amount is off the charts....if that happens it is what is and move on. I really hoped that you guys had stayed up...just means this season we have to look for six points from elsewhere. You guys going down will have had more effect on our survival than Defoe leaving....lol
Dear Mr Bilic I just read your comments on Jermaine Defoe, a Sunderland player. I think you are a disrespectful pig . You clearly fear for your job, but what you are trying to do is unacceptable. I look forward to seeing you at the SoL
Has that gay c*nt actually spoke to JD or is he making an assumption? Why dont they all f*ck off and leave clubs to deal with each other. That c*nt was a never was never mind a has been so who the f*ck gave him the authority to speak on anybodies behalf.
I can't see us selling him now, if we go down we can sell him in the summer and he can get his move then if he really wants to go. Up or down his value in 6 months will not be affected. So from the players point of view he has nothing to worry about. In the summer he might have more teams after him so can name his price in terms of wages. Here is the thing, if Short is resigned to relegation then he will sell, and we can all just prepare to go down. He might at well get rid of Kone, Pickford, Khazri and Borini too. You might get a large wedge of the 90m relegation would cost from that lot. Or he backs Moyes and gives him a little bit of money to keep us up. Its a gamble but with players like Defoe in the side we always have a chance.
