Looks like Sunderland are trying to get 10mil for Defoe, surely worth a punt even for a season and a half. Exactly what we are missing in a forward. He can be sold to the Chinese to get the transfer money back

 

Would be poor business in my opinion. Only worth spending £10m for a really short term fix if you are at risk of relegation, which we certainly are not.

I sort of agree. Need to get over his Pompey connections though. Saying that, we know what he looks like in red and white stripes.

Seriously though, a good short term fix. A goalscorer. The knack of being in the right place at the right time. Scores important goals.

Lyon midfelder Clement Grenier has told a french rag that hes in talks with 2 premier league teams , he has 5 french caps and plays in central midfield obvious french links with the manager? nothing to say we are one of the clubs tho.

 

Yeah but he will probably not do anything beyond this season. We won't be able to sell him on as he is just too old so we'd most likely end up paying £10m for 5 months. That could be put toward a younger striker that will actually give us a minimum of 2/3 seasons and then still have a resale value.

Typical West ham transfer - thankfully saints buy smart. Would be one of the stupidest transfers in recent history.

Exactly, if I were Sunderland I wouldn't sell for £15m let alone £10m. He is their only hope of staying up.

 

Defoe, Snodgrass and Sigurdsson. The three players who many PL teams would no doubt want, but who you simply cannot see moving this month.

 

Yeah, when you're battling relegation, selling the guy who has bagged almost 60% of your goals would not be wise.

Quick question myself: when was the last time someone asked when the last time any PL club did a player plus cash deal? Must be the most asked question on this board, hands down! At its peak it used to crop up every three or four pages in a transfer thread.

Why do newspapers say the club manager is signing a player when in truth these days they are bit part players in the decision making process that led to the signing and the player actually signs for the club.
