Its true. Scally has had enough of Jed and gives him the bullet. After poor display. He must of been pissed off when jed said he had one of the lowest budgets in the league and he was doing well considering.Best time to do it as new manager can now bring in new players during jan trasfer window.

Heard the story about half an hour ago but have been waiting for something in internet to absolutely confirm it.

    http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11737/10716581/justin-edinburgh-sacked-by-gillingham

    and now on OS

Regardless of what he might think he's had a more than fair crack of the whip. Maybe ultimately it just wasn't the right place for him at the time, and hopefully we'll get someone who can play more adventurous football this time round. JED was the great hope after the boredom of the return of Taylor, but it's really just been more of the same.

Been a long time coming......since February imho. Good players do not become bad overnight and the reports re Deli and the absence of Osadebe must speak volumes of what is or not going on in the dressing room. The squad, on paper, should be far better than they have been performing. Needs a strong manager with a proven record.....not cheap or easy to come by.

The only problem with a manager with a strong personality is if he would get on with Scally. I wonder if that was the problem with Mad Dog?

I think what did it for me, although I have not been vocal about it until now, is that media reports stated on more than one separate occasion during his reign that he felt we had been over achieving for the last two seasons. Comments like that just make my blood boil. Unlike with MA this time Scally did make the right decision and I think the timing of that decision is excellent for many reasons <applause>

After yesterday terrible performance and awful after match interview I'm not surprised. I think Scally had seen enough. It's a shame because he did really well first half of last season but then it all went wrong and to be honest we have been poor ever since. Right time for a change and I hope we get the right man in to take us forward.

I've supported Justin Edinburgh throughout his tenure and stood up for him when there have been a lot of unjust comments made about him. However the chairman has made the decision to remove him from his duties.

I'm sad at his demise and the amount of abuse he has received over the last couple of months but I'm also relieved that it's now over. I can't argue that the results haven't been good enough because that is the case, they just haven't been. He can now be free from the abuse he's received and it's best for all parties that we move in different directions. Just because I supported him, don't get me wrong his comments recently in the media have riled me and I don't doubt that's a contributing factor as to why he has gone.

The timing probably was right, results haven't improved significantly enough since our terrible run in October and November and Justin has paid the price. All I hope is that the new manager, whoever it is gets the support that he necessarily didn't. And that we don't bring Hess back lol.

I haven't been shy in voicing my disapproval of so much about JE's managerial qualities. I have stated that he has been instrumental in poor recruitment decisions, poor decisions regarding formation, poor tactics, poor substitutions, poor man management and poor relations with fans - - especially away from home - where in recent weeks he has not approached the away fans to acknowledge their effort.
I believe that I have not hurled abuse of a personal nature. In fact I have previously stated that I do not have any knowledge of JE's ' personal life ', upon which I could base any judgement (none of my business ) BUT
I am entitled to voice my dissatisfaction with the performances over the last 12 months. JE states that we have 'over achieved' - well there was scant evidence of that against Oxford. Fans pay a lot of hard-earned money, and expect the players to give 100%. This commitment has been in extremely short supply in 2016 (17). As far as I am concerned , practically all of the 'usual' starting 11 can follow JE. I support GFC - but I will not support lazy or uncommitted players.
If you remain in any doubt that JE hasn't deserved some flak from some fans - just consider the arrogance of his recent 'attack' on fans --- when, all of the time he should have been trying to get things right - instead of treating us fans to verbal diarrhoea ....................... nothing personal

Glad scally has got rid of Jed. I thought jed was going to be a very good manager for Gills and started brillantly after Taylors failings. But he lost his way in 2016 when we should of made play offs at least after the super start to last season. This season we have gone backwards. We have too many similar midfielders and apart from Dack no creative players. He has been desperate trying to bring in loan players then out of contract players which Scally has backed. We have a big squad of average players where young players are not given a real chance. Before yesterday Oldaker scored a great goal in his last game and mom but only featured yesterday since. Why has List or Osedebe not featured who add something different or some of the other youngsters.
I dont expect the new manager to get us to the play offs but without change we were heading for a relgation scrap.

    Always,

I have no issue with anyone voicing dissatisfaction at games. I for one witnessed some of our worst performances this season including AFC Wimbledon away. When I referred to the abuse he received, I don't refer to anyone on this forum, more on other social media outlets where the abuse has been downright awful and incredibly offensive. His son and his son's girlfriend have also been victims of horrendous amounts of abuse from our so called fans on twitter and they're not even the ones stood on the touch line.

As I stated, the timing of his sacking was probably right and his comments recently have riled me like everyone else and I don't disagree with the decision made.

Jed took over a winning team from the Go4 in February 2015, and he continued their good form for the next 10 months. Unfortunately the longer his tenure lasted, the more influence he had on the backroom staff and team, then the worse we became, culminating in a 2016 year that would be relegation form if played in a single season.
His recent comments suggesting that 17th place still sees us as over performing, was the final straw, he had to go. I wish him all the best in whatever he decides to do, but think Scally has got this one spot on.

The chairman was interviewed on BBC Radio Kent this morning with regards to the sacking of JE, Kerslake & Hatswell. He referred to JE making a coaching change in the summer which has had some impact on the dip of form (Lovell being sacked and replaced) and that he's now looking at a different style of coaching team. He ruled out Alan Pardew and Gary Rowett as he expects them both to be too expensive.

The route that of management he is now looking at is to bring in a Head Coach with a decent coaching team underneath the H.C. This in turn will lead to the Director of Football & Head Scout to be solely in charge of transfers made to the club.

Not sure how I feel about that at the moment but not much I can do about it lol.

Spot on Grumpy...all the previous posts seem to have missed out the spell 'twixt Taylor and JED. The team were on the up and running when JED came in....a 'relatively' easy pair of shoes to wear. However, when the situations demanded, there was no 'Plan B' let alone a 'Plan C' or 'D'...... or even one of Baldrick's 'Cunning Plans'.

Yes JED had done well at lower league football but perhaps coming up against 'bigger' personalities or those who actually believed that they were better than they are proved a step to far for him to deal with at the moment.

The manager has to take the fall for the team's performance however they should look into their hearts if they are so 'gutted' at JED's departure and ask themselves 'Could I have done more?' Of course they won't.....they have a job and it is not as if players are queuing up to play or sign for the Gills to increase the competition for places.

Yep I'm a cynical git, but these players are well paid, even at this level, for doing something that they should love to do......

I just don't believe this group are hungry enough and what comes out of their mouths does not match what the feet and head do on match day.

Could do a lot worse. Know the club and hearts in the right place. A 'name' manager would only stay until a better offer came along.

Rather an interesting sideshow with Northampton on level points with Gills. Both clubs looking at the drop and both ought to avoid it but both may have dropped real clangers.
The problem with JED boiled down to inexperience, young players showing no development at all, and bad judgement in the transfer market. The solution has been to appoint a trio with hardly any experience at all and no obvious know how of league 1 and its players.
The daftest thing that could have happened was to let the euphoria of JED's departure cloud the need to replace him with a solution that remedies his deficiencies. To anyone who stands back and looks at what has happened, what has happened looks crazy.
Anyway, the biggest ingredient for success is luck at this level so good luck to both Pennock and Edinburgh. JED,s first signing will be Cargill! That will give him the upper hand in this mini contest.
