Don't get sidetracked about the money spent. United was always going to spend a fortune rebuilding. They spend because they can. It is the GGs money. If the club didn't spend it it would have ended in the GGs pockets. Consider this: Moyes (and I initially wanted to give him time) didn't have the confidence in his own ability and in his own players to win. He bigged up other teams as superior. We lost confidence that he was going to take the team further. LVG's football was just dire. He may win football matches but his style is totally opposite to what the fans want. JM: I said he should be given time as there is promise that he could deliver. Even if this season is not successful his football has been a significant improvement on the other 2. It is time we stopped sacking managers for not achieving their objective of CL football.
Well the football we are playing at present is absolute dross. A packed midfield with a big man upfront. It's like watching the chavbus every week. 75 mins against a 10 man West Ham and I still felt we where very lucky. Didn't create that many chances and allowed West Ham some golden chances. The funniest part was with half hour to go, he brings on a defender for an attacker when we go 1-0, this is against a side in the bottom half of the league. Yet LVG is boring? I'm not saying LVG played good football, but Mourinho is even worse. Could you imagine SAF parking the bus with half hour to go against 10 men just because you go 1-0 up. Any top side takes the game to the opposition and kills them off.
You are kidding right? He brought Smalling on to combat Carroll, he also pushed Carrick back into midfield to keep the attacking intent going. It was a tactical substitution to counter a specific threat but did not change the basic formation of the team.
Carroll wasnt even on the pitch when he brought him on He just wanted Carrick in midfield because he's more defensive minded. Such a negative coach, playing against a side with 10 men who are well below us in the table and he's shutting up shop at 1-0 with half hour to go. Surely the best form of defence is attack in that situation. A 10 man side that needs to chase the game, should be there for the taking. At 1-0 your always leaving yourself open to a fluke goal against the run of play, so it's best off pushing forward and getting the 2nd and 3rd goals. Especially against a side who are technically inferior to us. We are better than they are, we should be showing that, but instead we are employing tactics that a Big Sam or Tony Pulis relegation scrapping side would employ when they go to a team at the top end of the table.
You were watching the game, right? Including the part where he brought on an attacking midfielder for a left back at half time? How shockingly defensive of him, deciding to play with four defenders when we had the lead away from home...
Just add this utter nonsense to the long list. If he can't see the improvement then there really is no hope. Impostor, end of. The very worst type of 'fan' there is, hasn't got a ****ing clue. I don't know why any of you even engage in a conversation.
I'm not doubting that Mourinho will throw the dice a little when we are losing or still drawing a game we should expect to win. However the second we scored Smalling was getting ready to come on. Different if we where away to a team at the top of the table and it was 11 v 11. But to do that against a side we are better than who are down to 10 men is laughable. It was shades of Mikel coming on everytime Chelsea went 1 up. A side that's spent the millions we have, and has the talent we have should be putting 4 or 5 past any side in the bottom half who have 10 men for 75 mins of the game. I think people underestimate how tough it is for a team to cope that long with 10 men. It should have been a stroll in the park for us, but we made it look difficult. De Gea having to come to the rescue on more than one occasion.
Carrick had been moved to centre half to allow an extra attacking player to come on. Once we scored it was perfectly logical to bring on a centre half and move Carrick into midfield. Had we gone hell for leather looking for a second (which we did get by the way!) and Carrick had been done for pace or position as a centre half, you'd moan about a CM playing in defence. We're not the most attacking team in the league but we're a **** sight more entertaining now than we were under LVG.
Well 31 goals in 20 games says otherwise. Only 1 ahead of the mighty Crystal Palace. All the other top 6 sides miles ahead of us in terms of goals scored. Spurs 37, City 41, Chelsea 42, Arsenal 44, and the Dippers 48. We have played negative chavbus football all season, that isn't any more entertaining that LVG in his first season. Despite having a much better squad of attacking players than LVG had.
Ok fella, you appear to be watching a different team to the rest of the United contributors to this thread. We've had 71 attempts on goal in the last three matches.
Oh look how boring and negative we are: https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/clubs/total_scoring_att?se=54 Halfway through the season and we have taken almost as many shots this year as we did all of last. Yeah, it's just like watching LVG...
Don't you realise football is played on the stat sheet? You don't have to actually watch, you just quote stats and pretend you know what you're talking about. More or less patented by UIR.
No I have a different opinion, which I've backed up with facts proving how poor our goal return has been this season.
You're being idiotic, King. Especially your claim that we are playing negative football. If you love facts, then you're going to love this... We are currently third behind Liverpool and Spurs for shots on goal. My guess would be that it is closer to the top if you narrow down to the last 13games. Number 1 in pass completion rate. Not bad for a team you claim plays negative football. https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/2...amStatistics/England-Premier-League-2016-2017
Stevie Wonder could see the improvement in the side since JM took over. We are strong defensively, our midfield is playing expansive, attractive, free-flowing football and we are stacking up an impressive series of wins - and not all of them pretty, there is a new steel and determination about the side that hasn't been evident since SAF left. By any measure our play has improved immensely and we have a very good chance of finishing strongly in the league with a good chance of a CL place next season and plenty of silverware still on offer.
Your using possession stats to prove your point, yet I'm sure last season not many teams would have more possession than us. So not sure how you can use that to prove we've improved?
We are in 6th place at the half way stage, hardly a positive position to be in when the bookmakers made us 2nd favourites at the start after the astronomical money we've spent. So we are in a position well below expectations. Recent results have been positive in the league, but of those 6 games only 1 was against a top side and that was a home win over Spurs. I hope this run continues, but I'm far from convinced it will once we face stronger opposition.
So you are going to conveniently ignore the fact we have made around 50% more shots per game than our average for last season, and a third more than in LVG's first season?
No, look at shots on goal. It is closer to number 1 in the league. Now, combine that with possession which is 6th, it tells its own story and definitely does not paint the picture of negative football. So your chavbus argument is completely useless.
