There's no suggestion that he lacked commitment. However he was honest about what a drawn out process he thought it was going to be. The government want to convince people, some of whom have been sucked in, that it will be done and dusted over a wet weekend and the EU will cave to all of our demands. Maybe he had too much pride to lie.

You think so? There's a fair few research students and lecturers that would disagree with you.

 

Maybe commitment was the wrong word to use, but if he feels he can't do the role justice for whatever reason, then maybe, if only for his own sanity, it is the correct decision.
I know this forum is hardly representative , but I don't know anyone who thinks this is going to be done and dusted quickly. Those that I know voted leave, expect short term pain with the hope of long term benefits.
I suspect that this story may rumble on, with both sides trying to claim some kind of moral victory. In the meantime, Ivan will probably have lucrative job offers from all over Europe!
