Sicilly and Etna are beautiful (Taormina is a very nice resort, where the tours depart from). And with flights with Easyjet and Norweigian airlines into Catania for around £50 each way, very affordable too.
Sicily is way up there on my bucket list - ever since I watched this excellent TV series set there... So much history, and looks beautiful...
Certainly is, this picture is in Taormina at the ancient Roman/Greek ruins, a bit of a mixture, invaded by everyone...... Etnas flank is just visible in the very top left.... please log in to view this image
We did 12 nights, flying into Palermo & renting a private apartment. All in it was less than £600 for the two of us. Public transport was easy to use & very much affordable. Beautiful place
And my last pic of the day before I bore you all to death.....its work tomorrow. This is the view from the hotel balcony facing North east, land visible top right is mainland of Italy (water in middle is straights of Messina seperating the boot of Italy from the football that is Sicilly) This hotel was about 30 euros a night, so get a cheap flight, cheap hotel and explore......all the best for 2017 please log in to view this image Oh and if there are any plane geeks (yep like me), this was the Easyjet flight from Manchester to Italy as we passed over the Alps please log in to view this image
Not boring at all. My ex boss (Irish American) is married to a Sicilian lady, who still has relatives there, and my dental hygienist is from Sicily. Can't persuade her to accompany me there for a "guided" trip - there's 30 years age difference - drat the luck...so expect a pm from me for advice & tips when I take the plunge sometime soon. Thanks for the pics.
Generally been a good year for me. I like being proven right when people have doubted my cynicism about the world (I've formed my view from experience, not from wishful thinking), so a year where my only mistakes have been to underestimate the stupidity of people means I now get to claim I'm overly optimistic myself. I mean, I lose track of the amount of times I have to stop people introducing things at work because they won't work in practice, now I can at least say "remember, we're working with people who think batteries go in the freezer" as an explanation of why what they want won't work. The grim reaper has done a great job last year of denying modern stars publicity by giving us constant reminders of what people needed to have to become famous in the past, so he's popular. Just hope if people don't learn then it's like Krampus and he comes back and takes away the modern stars as "punishment". Oh and City related, following the deterioration in Allam Marine's performance while his dad has been ill, Ehab has shown his good strong family values again by not spending any of the domestic TV money signing players, all so that he can ensure his wife gets a good settlement from the divorce, rather than her being left with nothing.
Favorite moment of 2016 was getting through the last moment of 2016 alive and realizing I can still have a laugh with many of you on here, whether it be pettiness, bitchiness or (heaven forbid) agreement between the diverse opinions exhibited hereupon. Despite all our differences, and adverse factors involved in supporting Hull City AFC, there is a genuine love for our team on this site. Long may it continue. Happy New Year to all of you ****ers UTT.
A post brimful of irony and dark humour, though just a trifle obscure. No offence intended, but would I be wrong in guessing you'd had a wee dram or two before you wrote this? Surely, it's obvious that storing fresh batteries in the fridge will extend their life. It's what they do with corpses in the mortuary, after all! Happy New Year, Ric, and thank you for another year of sensible, restrained and unobtrusive 'moderating' of this edgy, highly combustible forum. Sincerely ... THANK YOU!!
Spot on; ain't that the truth (at least for all us mature posters)?!? Here's to at least one more year ... personal health and global politics permitting!
Last Thursday evening, I had to fix a ****ed up liquor order for a restaurant and had to deliver it to Moose Jaw. Though many use it as an expression, it's not everyone who can truthfully say, "I've been to Moose Jaw and back."
Sport - a couple. Being at Wembley to see both City and Hull FC win for the first time having been there for 1 previous attempt by City and 6 by Hull FC. Private. Being at Sydney airport to welcome back our best Aus friends who finally returned home for good after a 6 year stay in the UK/Europe.
Anyone considering a stay in Taormina should consider a stay at The Hotel Bel Soggiorno, a fabulously positioned traditional old establishment.
"Happy New Year, Ric, and thank you for another year of sensible, restrained and unobtrusive 'moderating' of this edgy, highly combustible forum. Sincerely ... THANK YOU!!" "Creep. So special, so very special." Zzzzzzzzzzz
City-wise it was the 3-0 v Derby, Diame's Wembley goal and even the totally unexpected opening day win v Leicester. On a personal front 2016 was a great year. Met my girlfriend just before the year started, have had some fantastic trips away - the best of which was a week on the whisky island of Islay - and probably had the most carefree fun year since I was at uni 20 odd years ago. Certainly been a good distraction away from the ****e happening at City. However, I sprained my ankle in the first hour of 2017 and am now unable to drive and barely able to walk!
