The light show in Queen Victoria square is superb. Watched it on ferens and when that rolling sea started I felt quite green at the gills. The war bombing scenes and fire/smoke effects were stunning. Definitely going back to see it again
The Queen Victoria light show is amazing. Trinity Square is also looking really impressive it should be great on a summers day.
Much excellent positive media for last nights launch, only the Daily Mail letting the side down with their usual negative slant... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...urs-marked-new-status-Britain-s-art-city.html
The Mail is a good read normally, but on this occasion they've missed the point completely. ALL British cities have the same 'issues' on NYE and Hull is no exception. Hull is a port city, and has had a lively nightlife for centuries, long before places like Milton Keynes, Tunbridge Wells and Henley were even thought of. People were press-ganged, caught syphilis etc in the Old Town long before Leeds and Sheffield had even been heard of. We were in the original CL of European trade (the Hanseatic League) while most places in the north were tending their flocks or scrabbling for lumps of coal with their bare hands on exposed hillside seams. This is what happens in places like Cardiff, Liverpool, Plymouth and Hull...the nightlife has always had a seedy and rowdy side to it that inland places didn't have. We should make no apology for it, it's a nationwide affliction this rowdy drunkenness. At least ours has some historical dimension to it, and until recent years Hull was a stag weekend destination because of its lively nightlife. Now, when are we going to see a repeat of that Cuthbert Broderick documentary by Jonathan Meades 'The case of the disappearing architect'?
I've just seen The Sun one, they've got the same photos as the Mail, must have had a limited number of things to show. As City Man says, 'some people drink too much on New Years Eve' is hardly a news story.
There's a gap but they show a countdown until it starts again , can't remember exactly but it wasn't long
Very snide and cynical attack from the Daily Mail, but we must turn the other cheek on such things and keep going. I would urge people not to rise to it!
I'm going to view the display this evening at 6.30pm and gauge from the timings a reasonable amount of time to stay to watch. Before It's finished for the night . Watch this space.
It seemed to be on loop last night, only stopping for the fireworks. However long it is, you'll stay and watch it all over again, because it's simply awesome You ULL
C'mon guys, we've been at the **** end of the stick in media for so long nothing surprises me anymore, especialy when the media is London centric, London have no problems? The Daily Mail, owners of our only daiy newspaper I think, have a spread to spread the **** that has been spread so much over the years that it is getting a bit thin. But hey a girl flashes her knickers, drunks are around, wow, for me that indicates that the city is alive at least, maybe to some (media here) it is not acceptable, but then London crushes everything due north, ****s.
