Not for sports people in their 20's. After a further 30/40 years dedication to their sport, then yes OK. I remember England cricketers, won the ashes in Australia (great performance I agree) and duly picked up MBE's. Within a short period that same team became just about the worlds worst --- should have returned the gongs.

On the theme of honours, always wondered how Seb Coe became a Lord. Anyone enlighten me ?

Services to self, its how most of them get these pompous decorations, plus a seat on the gravy train, the whole bloody farce wants scrapping imo.

I've had more hot dinners than being banned mind hehe. I saw sir Ken at the empire in 1998. A 4 hour show and my legs ceased up ! he is a legend though. Another question is how did Mo not win sports personalty of the year at least once ?

    Mrs Beckham has though.
    Every one she recorded.

I presume her gong was for her immense services to Music, now that she's given up singing at us.

You could hardly call that singing mate, she couldn't shout 'coal' down Fawcett Street FFS.

My old man worked for the Inland Revenue at the time and knew the blokes who were prosecuting him. Guilty as sin, but the trial was in Liverpool. Draw your own conclusions...

wasn't Garry Bennett-who I thought the world of-once tried for tax evasion in Sunderland and also got off. Presumably enough jury voted the way I would have done if I'd been there

Became a Tory MP and had some portfolio about sport, or the Olympics, specifically.

Its people who get honours for doing their politically based government jobs that devalue the system imo - not many even know who they are ???
People who consistantly improve the emotional side of life for many people deserve some honour - but this is the opinion of an emotionally damaged Sunderland fan - happy new year with a glass half full positivity in 2017

As I recall he was a close friend of William Hague when Hague was party leader. I believe that he was his Judo Partner.
When Hague resigned Coe was on his Resignation Honours List.

No knighthood for Steve Cram YET.
He ticks most of the boxes.
Still holds the UK Mile record, over 30 years after he set the record.
    Top BBC Athletics commentator.
    Chancellor of Sunderland University. (Education)
Treasurer of The Foundation of Light (Charity)

I THINK that Gary's defense had a touch of the Ken Dodd's about it.

'Sorry yer honer, but I's is a thick footballer who doesn't understand these forms an fings'.

And I'd have voted with you as well.

    Agree with this <ok>

But what if it's Mrs Peabody who's been tealady for 60 years at the local cafe, and at the age of 75 gets one for "services to the community"?? Just trying to look at it objectively.

Re Judo Partner, delete and insert bum boy.
Re Steve Cram he is the most boring bloke on the Tele along with Brendan Foster. Cram is so far up his own arse he's almost disappeared.
His current partner bullied my youngest daughter whilst they were in primary school together, ended up with my little girl having hospital treatment, she is an ugly evil cow and they are very well suited. cant stand Steve ****ing Cram and am distraught that he had anything to do with my beloved club.
Rant over, apologies if I've offended any Cram lovers.(not).

She sounds a real horror. I thought Steve Cram was a javelin thrower and a nice bloke but google says otherwise, who am I thinking of?

Steve Backley was a decent spear thrower. Maybe him?

Cram is a SAFC fan and was a long (ish) distance runner way back.
