I'm as happy as anyone that we won that game, but I wouldn't want us to play like that often. We were much too deep, and much too wary of them, for my liking. It worked yesterday, but I can't shake the feeling that we could come unstuck more often than not playing that way. We've had so many years of giving away late goals when we're trying try to see out a narrow lead, it'll take more than a few games to give me confidence. Anything less than a three goal margin with fifteen minutes to go and I'm having kittens.
Im sure it was horses for courses. We knew City would dominate the ball and they are the only team that will do that to us so we had to adapt to a different way of playing. Scoring the early goal probably helped that game plan but at same time meant we sat back a lpt more a lot earlier I think. I cant see us playing that way very often, probably do similar when we play City away, rest of time we'll play for the 4-2 again
It was a pragmatic approach by Klopp, and it worked. We have a signature style but were able to adapt.
He said himself post match that it became too deep for his liking..suffocating them just inside their half which we did more in the first half is as grindy as I want it lol
To be fair if Firminos head had of been on right we wouldn't even be discussing this as it would have been 3 nil...
True, we played some really nice stuff at times and some poor control/decision making saw those opportunities come to nothing.
And it wasn't even half chances it was a poor touch or mistimed pass that had one on one with keeper...simple stuff. The best version of Firmino earlier in season gets that stuff right. It'll come back to him and at least in his off period his pressing and availability in space is still productive...
