Daily Telegraph has got Shane Long potentially off to West Spam to solve their striker crisis.....really?

I wouldn't be against this if the price was right, though it sounds more like a loan? I would love him to hit form again though, delighted he scored yesterday albeit in vain.

Anything in excess of £10m and sadly West Ham can have him.

I think in other circumstances we would have let him go in the summer. He is in the interesting zone where he's not part of our future and has some sale value. So letting him go wouldn't surprise me...

Why, he has hardly done much, promote Seagar and buy a full on Pelle replacement, ie just buy one striker in Jan.

The fact West Ham are potentially looking at Shane does rather tell you how sparse the January striker options are...

Gone midday. Beddy was right. Puel out now.

More seriously, can anyone itk see where the solution to our goalscoring problem is coming from. Like the late lamented Manuel "I know nothing", but maybe someone does.

Perhaps, or they are pretty **** in choosing players.

I imagine you are right, or that we are shopping slightly up the ladder.

I like to think we make our purchases usually out of pure, informed luck...

I would love to know what the 5 year plan is now and how this season is panning out for that. Not meaning to rule out Everton or Norwich, but the Liverpool semi really is the defining moment for this season for me. If we lose and we have 4 months left for the season to peter out, are the board likely to stick or twist? I also have no idea what the 'southampton way' is anymore, it all just feels a bit muddled to me now.

Never thought I would ever say this, but right now I'd take a fully fit Andy Carroll in exchange for him.
Hate the guy, but he makes things happen up front.

Batshuayi or Perez on loan might be worth an ask?

I'd take a fully fit Andy Carroll any day of the week. Always have, always will.

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a fully fit Andy Carroll.

I think if we do go for a striker, it has to be a big target man.
We are missing someone to hold the ball up and bring others into play very badly. Chazza is okay at this, as shown against West Ham away, but since his injury the ball just doesn't stick.

Unless we start playing balls into channels or into our strikers feet, we NEED a target man. The current tactics that Puel uses are crying out for someone to hold it up.

It's never changed. Sustainable growth. Regular European ventures where possible. Champions League eventually.

Personally I don't see much activity this transfer window. I really like the way Puel says he would rather get the players he has to perform than keep bringing new players in. If it needs shaking up, let's use the academy. McQueen and Sims for example have not disappointed. The calls for a target man are valid but Long performed that role well enough last season when Pele was injured. Rightly or wrongly the difference this season is the way Puel wants us to play. Give him time. That said, I would personally like to see us getting the ball forward faster. I would like to see more of our players getting into the box on attacking plays. I honestly don't think we're far off. It will come together in the new year.
