So we've now got the one and only Felix Luz on trial, another journeyman player with a history of injury problems. Is this really the best we can hope for? If we have no cash* then I would rather we put faith in younger players coming through the ranks or pick up some emerging talent from League 1 and 2 and mould them into Championship players. Picking up waifs and strays and old players with knackered knees is not the way to go. *Of course we should have cash to burn, but that's another topic.
It doesn't matter anyway,Felix Luz could well be absolutely the type of player we need but Grayson will send him out on loan to 'learn the english game.'
Givn our current striking problem, I doubt SG would send this guy out on loan yet.... assuming we do indeed sign him
I have it on very good authority, Ted McMinn the former Derby County and Rangers player has offered his services at a very low salary. Bates has met the player and Grayson has been told to add McMinn to the squad and sell a high earning player. McMinn has a sweet left foot, even though he has always been very slow. The fact his right leg was removed a few years ago, is of no concern to Bates and therefore Grayson, as even with one leg he is better than most in the current Leeds squad.
Regarding Luz - WHY? is the question, save his wages and play Grella, if we are going to take this kind of player on loan what is the point in keeping the likes of Grella??
Id give Grella another chance. The lad seems to score tonnes in the reserves, its just pure confidence in front of goal we need and I think he has that, deserves another go, if Bessone is still in the squad so should Mike. Luz sounds ok but Somma wasnt prolific wen he joined, his strike rate was awful, now look at him. Big game tonight, I see a bad performance tho, no Gradel Snoody Somma Becchio ODEA
Grella's ****, he's on the transfer list and we can't shift him. What kind of players are you expecting to see on trial? Luz has played at a very high level and he's here so the management can see if theres anything there worth signing. Nunez is a Mexican League and MLS "cast off".
Grella's attitude's the big problem and apparently it showed against Farsley aswell. I tink the only reason Grella's being half consedered is if we don't find anyone to cover for Somma. Luz could be Becchio's back up if Paynter goes as apparently Luz is very similar to Luciano.
We don't need Luz. He'll be no better than what we've got. The only reason we're missing Becchio so much is because Grayson hasn't changed his tactics to suit McCormack. When Becchio plays we'll always be better because of his battling, headers etc. but we could still be decent if we didn't play the long ball. McCormack was being expected to challenge 2 Southampton centrebacks. It was ridiculous. We have 4 strikers at the moment: McCormack - more of a supporting player, who creates chances. Paynter - a donkey who can't really win headers, score but could take the physical battle against defenders to allow someone else to play off him. Gradel - fast, great with the ball at his feet running at defenders, good finisher Grella - good first touch and quick feet. The way I see it is Billy Paytner needs to play - he's the only one of our striker who could the physical side - and play him alongside Gradel. That'd give us pace and a good finisher up front. He was our top scorer last season, and played basically as a left sided striker in a lot of games. Have Grella and McCormack on the bench.
We won't get rid of Grella though. No-one is showing interest in him. Whenever he's played, he's shown talent. If I was him, I'd probably have a bit of an attitude problem. I remember the promotion season, Beckford was injured one game, he start and scored against Stockport, the next game he was dropped and didn't even come off the bench for atleast the next 3 games. Then when Becchio was injured, Sam Vokes and even Paul Dickov were signed and played ahead of him. Then he gets told he didn't take his chance. He should be our 4th choice striker whilst Somma and Becchio are injured. This Luz is 29, has a very average goal scoring record and has had knee problems his whole career. I just don't think he'll be any better than what we've got.
Dito that Grella deserves a shot at it & Luiz is very unlikely to cost much so sign him up too if Grella does bang a few in over the next few weeks it will only make him easier to flog once the main strikers come back
Or we could get rid of Grella and Paynter and get Luz in. Luz 146 appearances 28 goals you best keep Paynter
