Have a think. You'll get there. Failing that just read through the posts between mine and yours.

In my profession I see this all the time. But I'd add that many don't actually know they're being racist. It's when you educate them through mentoring, providing a deeper meaning, helping them to become self-aware, understand through empathy, that they realise over time. Ofcourse this is something schools etc have developed and changed their approach to more recently. So if you're one of the older generation then sadly without those interventions, these prejdices have become embedded.

To be honest, I don't really care what the weather does in the UK. I can predict, however, that a large depression will be centred over the UK from the end of March 2017 and that it will be greater than the one following June this year

If they don't know they're being racist, then they aren't being racist at all. You could say they are maybe naive or a little uneducated, but not racist.

Racism is about manner, tone and intent of what is being said and not actually the words used.

Unless you think that every black American who calls other black men 'nigga' are all racist against black people.

It is discrimination on the basis of someone not fitting your ideal. Not specific to race, gender, ability, sexuality etc.

Very easy for someone to favour 'their own kind' and be unaware that in doing so they are discriminating against others, possibly due to racial prejudice.

I'm afraid you're wrong, and in my profession that would be a completely flawed perspective. It isn't about the manner, tone and intent - in fact it's not about the perpetrator at all. Something that really gets missed - it's about the receiver. It's about the effect the words used have on the person it's aimed at. This is the problem with racism - we're far too wrapped up sometimes with the person committing it (or not as you've argued) that we forget that it's actually about the impact it has on the receiver.

If you read my previous post, you'll see I've written "become self-aware, understand through empathy, that they realise over time" I'm talking solely about them understanding how the victim feels, and THIS is how you change racist behaviour.

I'll give you an example of something someone once told me. An Indian lad who would often use humour to avoid getting on the wrong side of a well known bully at secondary school, got out of a tricky situation. Afterwards, the bully said to the Indian lad "You know R, you're a paki but you're alright, you make me laugh." The Indian lad told me that the bully actually thought he was paying him a compliment <doh> The Indian lad still considered him a racist ****. And the trouble is, he teold me he heard **** like this all the time. The long term impact of this, is the effect it has mentally and emotionally on the victim. BUT I want to add, it's also a failure to help the racist bully in this instance. The system has failed him also.

I disagree. Deep down in every one of us, I believe, is the sense that we are linked to each other, to our creator, and to eternity.

You have every right not to share that belief though. Hope you're not one of those atheists who is obsessed with god and religion.

Soft Brexit - Leaving the room quietly and with dignity, on the best possible terms with everyone.
Hard Brexit - smashing the furniture, pissing on the carpet, flicking everyone the V's and flouncing out singing "Rule Brittania".

    Hope this helps <ok>

The exit boils down to how hard core the EU want to be, if they place nice it will be a softer exit, if they play like tossers, it will be **** you EU and good bye.
They will lose just as mush as us if its a hard exit.
