I would add that with Trump coming in, not giving a monumental **** about the environment, that needed doing.

Them dog walkers need watching though.

Actually I should say local government is the most corrupt and least accountable bunch of elected stooges we have.

Yes, I read that earlier myself. The UK is the "most watched" democratic society in the world. We can only blame ourselves. We meekly let it happen. You can imagine the French people putting up with that.

Funnily enough, after considering the article, that was the first thought that popped into my head.! Their dogs do find a lot of missing persons [sadly] and stolen property though.
I would say that the only more corrupt government is the national one, and they do in the full glare of publicity.

Dog walkers need to be watched in my town. The route to my son's school is littered with crap. This a mentality I struggle with!

Sadly it was indeed the poo decoration to which I refer. I like dogs and am well aware that the majority of owners are careful about deposits but some are not!

We bought our house (at a premium) partly because it backs on to woodland, however it's become difficult to enjoy a walk there as most of the footpaths are poo covered. To add insult to injury almost all are not local but driven there to leave their little pressies. I always wonder what the owners would think if I drove to their house and emptied a pile of my cat's poo outside their house :)

Post EU referendum ridiculous faux-pas: A Dutch woman, who has lived in Britain for 24 years, is married to an English man and has 2 children by him, has been told by the Home Office to make plans to return to the Netherlands: https://www.theguardian.com/politic...tish-children-told-to-leave-uk-after-24-years

I should say that this is not an atypical story of many EU citizens who have long lived in the UK. Apparently, they feel betrayed. I'll ****ing bet they do. Throwing the baby out with the bath water doesn't quite cover it.

As an expat Englishman living in the Netherlands with my Indonesian wife I've yet to get any clear idea of what our status will be. The government with its un-elected leadership doesn't seem to have, or won't share, its strategy so in our situation we can't make any decisions. Just trying to keep informed and review our options as the situation develops. Researching a number of sources, excluding the tabloid nonsense, the majority of opinions point in the direction of long term negotiations with a good percentage saying brexit shouldn't be seen as a forgone conclusion. How the Home office can come up with such a statement is beyond me.

As you are currently living in one of the more level-headed of countries [though I understand there are nationalistic stirrings even there], I suspect that you'll be fine to stay. And tbh, if you are considering returning to the UK, as an option, my advice would be to stay in Europe. The UK has ****ed itself good and proper.

Well my Portuguese wife who has been here for 12 years and has 3 children to me has not received any such "telling", nor has her sister who is married to another Portuguese fella and only been here 8 years nor has her brother who is single and been here 7 years.

Something smells fishy here because home office stuff would be across the board not just selective.

EDIT: And it is in the guardian which is as bad as the Mail/Express etc in printing stories selectively ignoring some of the facts to make their story work in their favour.

Would that be the same as selectively ignoring the fact that an article (from sub-headline down) is very specifically about people who have recently applied for British citizenship (and who need their original passports) so they can be compared anecdotally to other people who (presumably) haven't? If someone did that to support their biases that would indeed be heinous behaviour.

God, he's a moron. Someone ask him to tell a joke. It was said this week he has no sense of humour and that's a sign of low intelligence. Tell us a really witty joke Donald! (intentionally)

Theresa May will put plans to pull out of the European Court of Human Rights (EHCR) at the heart of her campaign for the 2020 general election campaign, after ministers conceded that reform plans have been delayed by Brexit.

The Prime Minister is understood to be backing plans to “lift and shift” human rights enshrined in the European Convention and write them into UK law.

Mrs May’s plans go further than those drawn up by her predecessor David Cameron because they will give the Supreme Court the final say over how the rights are applied.

However, sources said she has decided that she cannot start that fight with the prospect of negotiating Britain's exit from the European Union set to dominate Parliament over the next few years.

A senior Government source said: “We would have been looking at having a huge row with a Parliament to get through the Cameron plan and we might even have failed.

“A clean break is by far the best option and, if we put it in the manifesto, even those Tory MPs who are squeamish about the idea will have to get behind it.

“A manifesto pledge also means the Lords will have to let it through eventually. All the signs are that the Prime Minister is up for this.”

    Ergh, **** off.

I see the Prof involved in the Hillsborough inquiry has turned down a CBE!! Well done to him. The only people who should get any kind of New Years' Honours are Fire Personnel, Medics and despite adverse headlines, law enforcement officers. And of course the Armed Forces when they do good deeds like building emergency bridges in the wake of floods, or get medical help and food supplies to war torn areas and disasters areas of the world. The idea of show business and sports personalities as well as business people and politicians getting any kind of NY honour is beyond a joke.

I haven't read the article nor anything it contains but I await the Home Office advisory letter with much anticipation :)

My wife has never applied for British Citizenship so she will surely be first in line. I will keep the doormat company awaiting her fate though.
