I live in Colliers Wood in London and it's hardly been mentioned but there was a lot of damage, looting and fires. I read that the riot police were there but did nothing.

Love that the police were more heavy handed with the student protests that weren't anywhere near this bad. Think were starting to see that Cameron's police cuts were wrong as they are over worked and over stretched. Bring the lads back from Afghanistan to sort the pricks out.

But a greater percentage of those were white, so it doesn't matter. Does it? <ok>

The link in post 72 shows that there were many areas affected that have not been reported on. They seem to be concentrating on Croydon, Ealing and Clapham. I must admit that I have never liked waiting for a bus at Haven Green in Ealing late at night. The local MP cannot understand why Ealing was hit (she reckons Ealing Broadway is just a good meeting place due to transport links). IMO there is more than enough scum around there to do it themselves. It was only a few weeks ago that someone was shot on the road next to mine.

I dont understand the reasoning behind it all. Lack of jobs (offshored by the older generation(s))? Less chance of getting caught (safety in numbers)? A laugh?

It is all from the poorer sections of society (where most just happen to be black).

We do need a bit of revolution in this country to fix the equality imbalance but I am not sure this is the right way to go about it. Hopefully it will make investment a bit less London-centric (although the fact it has also kicked off in the provinces suggests that investment will probably just go abroad).

The Old Bill can't win . Everyone I've spoken to says they should just steam in a batter the living daylights out of anyone they see looting or rioting .
Some on here have even suggested shooting looters.

It wasn't so long ago that a pissed up big issue seller who was ****ing about got a shove in the back by a riot officer.

Unfortunately the bloke keels over and dies a short time later and the copper is up on manslaughter charges .

We can't expect the Police to have to pussy foot about for 99.9% of the time then suddenly turn into 2 Para when a riot occurs.

We are way too soft in this country and these lawless louts know that the system is geared towards the criminal and not the victim. I honestly believe that they think they are untouchable.

Can you imagine what would happen if a rioter got a smack on the head by a copper and died ?

We'd be back to square one and the bobby would be on a murder charge.

Like I say , the Police are caught between a rock and a hard place.

I say **** it, send in the Army .

I agree. It is not like lethal force needs to be used, just the threat of it should put paid to 90+ percent of the looters.

I don't think this is a "black" issue. If you look at the videos it's pretty mixed.

As ImperialTiger suggests, there will be smaller pockets of "me too" all over the place. What appals me is the disregard for life. There could be elderly people unable to climb out of windows in flats above burning shops. If this carries on there may well be deaths. In North Africa and Arabia they are on the streets fighting for democracy. Here, they're torching buildings and looting trainers. How pathetic. I went to school in Croydon and I was almost in tears last night watching the pointless burning of a family business that's been there since the nineteenth century.

I hope this disease won't come to Hull. If it does and the police are so restricted maybe there should be an army of 20,000 decent City supporters grabbing the low-life and handing them over.

Just some vermin trashing places for the fun of it, they're not deprived, half of them were screaming out of Ealing last night in Golf GTI's.

There was a very upset and eloquent bloke from Ealing interviewed while I was driving back from London this morning, he finished his interview on Five Live with the line 'the quality of life has improved in this country, but the quality of it's people has declined'.

Never a truer word spoken, there is a complete lack of pride in this great nation of ours, a lack of respect, even common courtesy has gone out the window and nowhere is this more evident than in our capital city. I can only describe the neighbours at my North London home as scum, there's eight year old's playing outside and screaming at midnight and we get letters asking residents to 'please stop throwing soiled nappies from their apartment windows into the car park'.

With any luck, the riots will spread to Harlesden, Willesden, Wembley, Dollis Hill and Neasden tonight, these areas can only be improved as a consequence.

I think Lamby was just using this thread as an excuse to remind us he has an extra home in That London. <laugh>

Humberside plod are expecting things to kick off here tonight, if you need any shopping from St Stephens, you'd better go now, apparently they're closing it early.

Telling that Cameron was saying about the need to keep kids in, got to be a large percentage of these people were juveniles, shocking.

Seems like the footage is a bit more balanced today instead of that endless clip of the black kids charging the police. Just saw a clip of that black kid pretending to help the stabbed guy on the floor whilst his white mate robs his rucksack, disgusting

Well there are probably very few places left to loot in London. Although there is still the place that should have been the focus of their discontentment, if that was their motive, Canary Wharf.
