Carrie Fisher and Richard Adams, the author of Watership Down, have died. Cheers, 2016. <ok>

So today I wake up to the news that Mark Clattenburg is the best referee in the world.

    Hmmm....

Even in that picture he's managing to look in the wrong direction.

Don't knock it, though. The Chinese want him to ref their Super League games.
If any of their representatives are reading this, then you should definitely pay him loads to get him there.
He's great. The best. You'll love him. I'll drive him to the airport and everything.

If Clatterf**k can go anorexic for a couple of days, I'll take him myself on saturday
as part of my "hold luggage" allowance.

Couldn't you just do it anyway? Chuck him out halfway, so it's not a full weight allowance.

While most people are talking about Steve Martin deleting material which is painfully unfunny a few decades too late for all the other painfully unfunny Steve Martin material, that failed talent show contestant is deciding to jump on the train - with predictable results...

As a result of Carrie Fisher's passing and the many references to the 'bikini scene' that have been made since, I've come to the shocking realisation that I've never seen that film or any other Star Wars movie since the first one, which I saw when I was 14. Given that it came out in 1983 and I was 20 at the time and I'm now 53, is that odd?

There are certain films that I've managed to avoid seeing on purpose - Grease, Sound of Music, ET, Titanic and everything involving Steve Martin since Parenthood come instantly to mind. Should I bother?

You should see The Empire strikes back.
That is a really dark film, and with one of the greatest WTF moments in cinema.

Just seen someone on my screen who I haven't seen for ages. Sian Massey running the line in the Villa/Leeds match.

I think she took time out to have a kid. Seemed to do well for a while, then completely disappear.

I don't like Mike Dean one little bit, but I understand our record when he has refereed us on the last 7 occasions, is 6 wins for us and 1 draw. Five penalties for us and 3 red cards for the opposition.

ET is well worth a watch, the rest of them aren't worth the hype. Oh, and 2 minutes of Titanic's 3 hours are worth watching. Just Google 'Kate Winslet Titanic drawing scene' and you shouldn't struggle to find them.

I think film and fanbases thereof very much depend on the timing of their release. Sounds like you were a bit too 'cool' already for Star Wars. I was 10 when the remastered trilogy came out in 1997 (sorry if I've made you feel old squire :emoticon-0131-angel) and I was absolutely hooked. It was a genius move by Lucasarts to release them again in "celebration" of the 20th anniversary, when in reality the marketing ploy was an unmitigated success: two generations hooked on Star Wars with the younger generation prepped to drag their parents to see the total train wreck that was the 3 prequels in 1999.
