He obviously doesn't need to be built like a wrestler, but he's ridiculously skinny. This wouldn't matter if he was able to just skip past everyone, but he's not looked capable of doing that so far.

Personally, I think his stats look poor for an attacking midfielder, just 2 goals in 53 games in a very good Spurs side. In the Championship he didn't score at all, only in League One did he bang a few in.

I know he's better than the performances we've seen so far, I'm just worried that if things carry on as they are his confidence will be completely shot and in our current position we can't afford to keep sticking him on the pitch.

I think the way hes playing his confidence is already shot, think phelan finally clicked on hence him dropping him, but seems he needs time to settle in and most of all to be played in his best position, i think his confidence or lack of has more to do with him playing crap alot more than his physicality in my opinion

Probably, the problem is a player low on confidence needs to be brought on when we're 3-0 up with 15 minutes to go and we're not in that position all that often at the moment.

Yes unfortunatly we cannot carry players when in a relegation battle
Probably do him good getting some back in the reserve games along with henriksen then bring them back

The worrying thing with regards to Mason is despite signing him at the last minute, he was linked with us most of the summer. It really wasn't well thought through and I'm not sure where the plan to play him was? We squandered what little transfer kitty we had on positions that didn't require strengthening.

That irks me as well but now we have him we might as well see if he comes good and not slate him week in week out.

It's the RB position that I found most frustrating. We started the season without a recognised right-back (I'm talking RB in a flat back four).

We must be the only team in recent Division 1/PL history that has started a top flight season without such a player.

    Embarrassing.

That's the point I made earlier, the price was daft, not the lad.

As for his ability as a footballer, I think it is not unreasonable to conclude that he has ability, but it isn't coming through for us. He has come to far in football for this to be wrong.

He clearly isn't a utility player, although I do think that is what the club thought they were getting. To find out what we really have we would have to play him in his favoured role. What would we lose by doing that? Nothing.
GK, CBs, WBs, all sorted. Midfield of Thudd doing what he does best, Jake harrying, as he does. Mason and Dio/Snods as attacking mids supporting Mbokani. We need to focus on attack and let our proven CBs get on with their game.
We do not have a senior player who can't be held responsible, or criticised, for their actions. The Head Coach needs to understand that and stop condoning **** tackles due to inexperience, it really is bollocks.

I really do think players should do this more often. It seems teams just dont do it anymore.
You can then tell the ressies manager to build the team around Mason or Henriksen, get em goal scoring opportunites. Make them take the pens, free kicks etc. Instill confidence into them.

Sticking an under performing player in the ressies can have a dual effect

    1) restoring confidence after some better displays
    2) completely destroying what little confidence they had.

It's a fine line between the two and only the manager can make that call.

Worra load of ****e that is.

If you read it i said teams not just us dont do it anymore. Which they dont.

A fine line!! FFS if it destroys their confidence that much then theyre walking out of football arent they.

Easily counterd by good man management skills and communication

Makes you think why managers dont use it for players low on confidence as well as players returning from injury, keeps everyone matchfit as well as restoring confidence, as well as getting youngsters used to playing alongside some of thier seniors its a win win

You start wondering if some managers have alot of common sense lol

I'd just like to point out that being skinny never held me back in my footy playing days.
