I'm not excusing them, I'm saying the cause of these riots isn't bad parenting or people destroying things for a laugh, if bad parenting caused riots on this scale then we'd be seeing riots every year, but we haven't, because it isn't the cause.
I agree but what we are seeing is decades of failure to tackle youth crime, social deprivation, immigration, social breakdown etc. The initial blame lies with the thugs. The real blame lies with the politicians.
The same stupid bint has probably never had a job in her life and is claiming benefits paid for by the true hard working tax payer.
Similarly, my friend worked for the social work department and had to give numpties money "for interview suits" and couldn't do anything when the wee runts didn't ever appear in her office or at the interview - the person could continue to sign on - this leads into the infuriating difference we have between "contribution-based benefits" (paid for by your own NI stamps and finite) and "non-contribution based benefits"(made up of other people's NI payments and seemingly infinite). However, the change in society that caused these guys to come from a family where no-one worked and no-one wanted to work if they could amass possesions in an easier fashion is at the other end of the scale. Society has changed - as for the gangsta thing coming out of America, that was borne out of the same extremist political ideology - remember, even Tory governments prior to 1979 had 100% employment as a target. It was the Reagonomics idea that an unemployed underclass is required to service a truly capitalist system as that's the only way to ensure that people will wish to do low-paid horrible jobs without demanding any sort of decent benefits or remuneration. The same guy that Thatcher and Reagan took their ideology from (Anthony Fisher) also invented Battery Farming - beneficial for the farmer, farming industry but severely detrimental to the chickens. The very fact that people living in the new ghettoes of the UK know nothing about politics and can't see beyond their own personal gain is symptomatic of the ideological individualism they've been brought up in. Not conscious of politics - yet their outlook is shaped by it and their environment. Two rants on one thread, Christ - time to get back to joking about forced bum sex
Some good stuff here, interesting to hear peoples opinions, those who believe their children would not get invovled in riots because of their up bringing are deluded. You have to look no further than the recent student riots, where the majority came from wealthy familes and had a good education and up bringing. What is happening today is as a result of society failing youth and as for those who think that politics is not to blame, well what can i say. The country is falling to pieces our Armed Forces and Police Force are being sent into situations that are life threatening and because of reprisals and beaurocracy we go in soft handed and try and appease these so called humans. Get the kid gloves off, use CS Gas, Water Cannons and forget human rights for those who choose not to abide by the law. If my children got invovled in something on this scale i would personally frog march them to the law and hand them over, utterly utterly despicable its time for a step change in the way we police individuals who choose to ignore the law. What has happened over the last few days is only adding fuel to the recent student riots and mark my words if we do not grip it NOW, i believe we will have riots across this country that we have never seen before.
i find it difficult to believe that this girl has ever paid tax, i suspect that she has taken a great deal more from the system that she is supposedly protesting against than she has paid into it, and she will no doubt continue to do so. Personally, if i want a new tv i save the money that i earn and buy it! crazy eh!
Is an entirely fair point - I would say, though, that having a rich father who is never there and off touring Roxy Music to wet-panted grannies for the umpteenth time (and without Eno as well - what's the ****ing point in that ) is not as productive an upbringing as having a father who's there all the time or has a job which involves them not being at home but encompasses great responsibility (being a soldier for example). Being rich doesn't automatically make you a good parent but you make a decent point
I suspect we're a bit old for rioting and looting. Unless they smash up M&S and there's a nice cardigan and matching chinos...
Then why do you think it is happening? What has burning out a shop or robbing a flat screen TV from ladbrokes got to do with politics? These people are scum and using this an excuse to smash their own area up and get some things that they may be beyond would they could normally afford. Other areas are seeing that the police are unwilling to tackle these large crowds and so they too are getting in on the act. Parenting has to be called in to question when the reporters and TV cameras mention that the majority of people on the street are teenagers and young adults.
Agreed - I wouldn't dream of raiding Currys or whatever but if someone wants to smash open the doors of Waterstones then it would be a different story altogether!
This. In fact rich people make some of the worst parents as they often employ nannies to raise the children while they concentrate on making more and more money. Active parenting is vital in raising children and social class is irrelevant in this.
I wouldn't say unwilling but unable due to paper pushing politicians refusing to authorise tough measures and the fact that their resources are spread thin
I would riot and loot, but I'd never make it home in time for my tea and I couldn't stand all the noise.
So you provide a snappy wee answer and can't summarise what was said. Why even bother commenting then?
Why? My child wouldnt be involved n either id like to think. Id also have no problem dragging them off the streets and kicking **** out of them if involved in a student riot or this There is no need for this behaviour for either of these events though. IF they are pissed off then they can protest - fair enough, but riot? no Ironically they actually are contributing to unemployment by putting businesses out of action and the resultign job losses At times in history when people have been oppressed fair enough - but these people are not oppressed. They may be let down by the governments, but they dont help themselves. There are lots of jobs out there- but fact is lots of people wont do the jobs because the feel it beneath them or they dont pay enough. They dont want to work to find work if that makes sence - they want it handed to them
