No when I said "talking to me" I was referring to your previous post that says "talking to FLT"?? Wondered if it was a typo, or who'd I'd been talking to
Apologies.... that other bloke who goes by the nick name FLT.... apparently used to be quite useful from distance....!!
I haven't seen it back, but I thought Virgil was marking Lane just before that corner?? Was it not he and Jose stood on the penalty spot marking Kane and Vic? I may be wrong but hats what I thought at the time.
Mmm not sure I've ever heard him called that! MLT yes, but there's only one FLT. I'll ring my solicitor in the morning and have him serve papers on the fraud
It really does make me laugh that back then, he simply couldn't be bothered to run as much so he hit it from 30yds plus and scored. What we would give for someone like that now, I know Bouffal has tried it a few times but as tonight has shown, he's too lightweight.... we couldn't buy a goal at the moment let alone the players who might do. The gulf between top 7 and top 4 showed tonight...
What about all the shirt tugging and hugging at corners then Tom, where a penalty is given but not a red card against the defender?
I thought that we were going to draw blood after Virgil's opening goal but the equaliser simply led to a truly inspired Spurs performance. It is difficult to see how anyone can grumble about the result especially after the penalty miss and Wanyama's squandered effort in the first half. We played better with ten men but out best chances seemed to come from Lloris' woeful clearances. Other than that, I would have to hand to Poch as say what a brilliant performance his team produced and the fact that that style of football is exactly what I would like to watch. The best thing about Spur's playing was how they could change the tempo at the flick of a switch - it was inspiring seeing an English team playing like this. As far as Saint's are concerned, we were outclassed and can't have any grumbles. The three substitutions were the correct ones to make and nearly paid off but, at the end of the day, I felt more than anything that this match illustrated the end of our pretentions for European football next season and the fact that we have failed to step up to the plate in our desire to become a "Top Six" club. We have gone backwards I feel under Puel although it is difficult to blame him given the quality of layers we have lost over the seasons. The replacements seem ok and not spectacular with Boufal being a bit of a disappointment. JWP played better yesterday but the team looks woefully short of quality up-front and whilst more than capable, Puel seems more likely to cement Saints in the middle of the table rather than move on from Koeman. The difference in ability between Puel and Poch is a very wide gulf but, then again, I think the Argentinian is proving to be a world class manager. at least Puel is unlikely to be poached at the end of this season!!
You amaze me Ian. You seem to revel in things not going well and see things through funny coloured lenses. I didn't think that was an inspired Surs performance at all. Yes they won well and took their chances but we let them off the hook. You've written that like a jilted lover reminiscing over a former partner. First half they looked just like we have done (which is apparently not good enough). Pass, pass, pass, pass, pass. No end product. They were hardly inspiring. We gifted them an equaliser and a second goal. Then down to ten men we valiantly chased the game, but to no avail. They caught us out on the break to give them a flattering score line. Yes they deserved the win. Yes they were better than us. Inspiring? Utter bollocks. Chelsea and Liverpool were miles better than them. Miles. Chelsea was an inspiring performance. I'm happy to accept that we weren't great tonight, but please put the tissues down; Spuds weren't really all that!
Aren't we 1pt better off than last season? (Or before the match yesterday). We're doing better than we think, but puels style of play is less inspiring than koemans and pochetinos. Less goals less intensity. That's why we loved the first 10 mins.
l am not so sure that you can compare points or league position to previous seasons as a definitive measure of progress until much later in a season. If the fixture list was identical each season, maybe you could, as you have a direct comparison. League position is also impacted by what others are doing around you, not necessarily what we are doing on the pitch. For me, the measure is how you have played and the results you have achieved against your peers as a measure of progress; in this respect we seem to have fallen backwards. ln the past couple of seasons we have had good success against the top 5 or 6 clubs and, frustratingly suffered losses to teams on a par or below us. This season we continue to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory against lesser sides, but our performances against teams above us have generally been poorer.
My feelings exactly. I really enjoy it when Southampton win but when they lose it is not the end of the world and as you have said, Spurs are a better team. In this match they exhibited their talent, when they come up against Liverpool for example, that is their match as in terms of talent there is not a lot between those two teams.
Even on points after 18 matches (we're 6-6-6 as we were then, though with a GD of -2 rather than +4). That was good for 12th then, though, and only a few days later there were credible rumours that our underperformance was on the verge of getting Koeman fired.
100% agree. 4-1 flattered them. They played well but we were the architects of our own downfall. Compare that to the Chelsea game and they simply outclassed us pure and simple. They'll outclass the majority of the league so no shame there. Now I'm about to go into work with several Spurs fans.
We got beat by a very good side I thought. Had them on the ropes for the first 15 minutes, but then they got on top and began to dominate. They have class all over the pitch, maybe no superstars - other than Lloris - but a very good squad, no weaknesses anywhere. However, two things; they are dirty bastards, and we really shouldn't have stood off them for the first goal. Let a side like that have that amount of possesion in front of your box and it's only a matter of time before you concede.
I think we lack confidence. A team scores against us and no matter how we are playing our heads drop and we sit back. The big teams take advantage of this hence the performance last night.
We're half way through the season though? So surely we've played everyone once? Not exactly same conditions no. The way we capitulated it does feel like regression though.
