what amazes me most is how many top top athletes have serious medical conditions - you could call it inspiring . . . you could call it fishy
I might just be naturally suspicious and cynical, but I couldn't help thinking that some of the "ailments" these super successful athletes have, seem to require, legally, stuff that is illegal for other athletes who are healthy.
Exactly , I know asthmatics n plenty of them struggle with it , yet it seems to be an advantage in sports, Same win Sharapovas heart problems , hmmmmmm
There will always be this issue, some might say that any athlete or footballer having pain killing injections can be seen as enhancing their performance, because without it they would not perform to their maximum, where do you draw the line? The nearest I came to it was one morning my mother gave me Frosties for breakfast instead of my usual Corn Flakes, and I scored a hatrick when playing for the school team, I have always put that down to performance enhancing cereal
I remember a programme a few years back that studied Nordic orienteerers. It found that prolonged training impaired the immune system. They used the study to set a training regime for a track cyclist, reducing the intensity as his blood count changed, and if I remember right, he won gold.
I fully agree. Along with many others, Wiggins has done wonders for cycling in general, the more people that can be encouraged to get on their bikes the better for the nations fitness, by heck it is needed. I have cycled for leisure all my life, and into my seventies now, I still get out most days and do a few miles, I love it. It is encouraging to see a marked increase in the number of cyclists of all ages and styles on the roads and tracks of today.
Not only that, but what's even more inspiring / amazing is that they only suffer from it and need associated medical support in the immediate lead up to a major race... Guilty. As. ****.
I agree if everyone held a consistent viewpoint. However sometimes it's easy to forget the 'they're foreign, they cheat - we're British, we dont' rule. And don't call me Shirley.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cycling/38457434 Proof Shirley ... or not I'm off out soon-ish (if it melts enough) & I took some Ibuprofen for my back (THU) I wonder if I'll get at a KoM ?
