It was OK but more luck than anything. I don't think he meant to do it, accidentally got ahead of the ball and panicked, just flailed to try to get any sort of touch on it. Borini's was the far superior goal - clearly intended and pinpoint accuracy, perfection.
I'd stop short of saying luck. Luck to me is when the ball hits you and goes in or takes a deflection. It wasn't his intention when the ball was put across to do what he done, but when the ball was behind him he knew all he could do was stick his leg out and hope for the best. Luckily for him it went in... from 5 yards out, in the centre of goal.
No need to be in an offside position ever again lads practise this and get the ball delivered behind you.........genius. it will remain in people's memories that's for sure ,thank goodness it was not the match winner.
I'm not bothered how good the goal was He was off side and wouldn't of been in that position if he was legally in play
This is the crux of it for me. But the pundits say it was too good to disallow. If that's the case, we should have Defoe train nothing but overhead kicks, have him stand a mile offside all game and every time we get the ball pass it back to Pickford to launch it up to him to attempt an overhead. I reckon a few would go in each game, and they'd be pretty spectacular therefore immune to the offside rule?
They can recognise it as been great if they want. But the truth is it was illegal,we could all score spectacular goals if the rules weren't obeyed.
