Don't get me wrong I'm a massive fan of Siggy but let's be realistic: he wasn't good enough for us during a time when most of the team around him were sorely lacking. He is now a very big and talented fish in a Swansea pond small on ability, hence he looks the part.

As I said, love the guy to bits but if he is the extent of our ambition I would be very worried.

If re-signing him was the extent our ambition, I'd be worried too. But at the right price I think he'd make a useful squad addition.

He's an intelligent player. And his skill at dead ball situations is something we could currently use, as Eriksen seems to have gone right off the boil in those situations.

There's a lot of talk linking us to Peterborough midfielder Leo Da Silva Lopes - which, if a deal was struck, would most likely mean a buy and loan back

David Pleat has been raving about this boy for months and Pleat has a very good relationship with Barry Fry.

I've heard the Peterboro' chairman on the subject of things Spurs, Levy and Pochettino. I can't think of any way he could be more besotted with us. Given the Dele Alli factor, I would like to think that the lad moving in our direction is a racing certainty.

However, when someone offers him £100k per week and omits to tell him that he'll be on loan in Holland until he retires, who knows?

What always worries me about Pleat getting involved in a transfer is that he'll be raving about a player for months on end and we'll have no idea who he really means because of the way he pronounces the name. I am convinced to this day that there is a world class defender somewhere out there called Cheery Cheese, we just guessed wrong.

Could be worse, I remember someone I am (unfortunately) acquainted with raving about this great striker named Debembaba

Anyone want to guess which player he meant?

He wouldn't suit Pochs high press , too ponderous . Was bang average first time around and we are littered with
mediocre squad players . First 11 players are needed with creativity of better quality than failed no end product overpriced Palace wingers .

He was talking about Sigurdsson, but your point still stands 100% true about Zaha. I cannot understand how players in that category could do anything more than clog up the squad.

Wilfried Zaha has been named for the Ivory Coast in the upcoming AFCON. That should put the tin lid on any interest from us and any other top side. Strange decision from the lad but it suits me just fine.

Been listening to the radio and they were discussing Barkley to Spurs. I was against it but I'm warming to the idea. He does do the hard graft so I think Poch would get work rate out of him. Plus his skill factor...that dynamic play he once showed would be something Poch would no doubt help him find again. Good competition in a key area. A statement of intent. Yeah he's gone off the boil but he's got talent, seems to have lost his head. A fresh start, we all need one to find our mojo in life sometimes.

Talking 35 mill. Let's get him in, he can improve us.

After a lot of careful thought and consideration of all the available data and facts I have concluded that this has got to be the worst transfer idea since some twonk on here suggested we sign Nasri <whistle>

I like Ross Barkley and think he's a talented player, but he falls into the same category as Siggy for me. Neither will improve us or offer us anything different than we already have within the squad.
We need some genuine pace in the front 4 (We currently rely on too much Walker and Rose) and ideally that someone needs to bag a decent amount of goals/assists, preferibly goals.
We don't have a De Bruyne, Sanchez, Coutinho, Hazard etc. And whilst January isn't the right time to be buying someone like that, its madness to think we could spend £35m on Barkley when that money could go towards someone out there like those I've just mentioned.

I agree. Whilst we're not in the position of being able to attract 'sure things' like De Bruyne, Sanchez, Hazard, etc., Barkley represents a major gamble given how far backwards he's gone in the last couple of years. He's not particularly pacy but he used to run well with the ball and have a bloody good shot on him. I've seen a couple of their games live on TV in the last few weeks and he's been completely anonymous. He looks like a major rebuild job for someone, the problem is that Everton will value him as if he was one of their best players given that we're a stronger club than them and flogging him on the cheap to us would look like a significant failure of their development and transfer policy.

I'd take him if he was at a 'Wanyama type discount' due to his contract running out but I don't see that as happening in January. Also, he's said to be on £80k per week which ain't chicken feed even today. However, Mauricio Pochettino is magic and if he says we have to have him.......then, ok.

What we really need IMO is an old head someone like Michael Carrick to bring the right kind of decision making to the team. Although Winks has performed like an old head in many ways so maybe we don't.
I have waited a long time to be impressed by Ross Barclay and I am still waiting.
