Anyone claiming that the riots are due to politics is deluded. These are mostly kids. They don't give a **** about cuts, it doesn't affect their lives because most will go straight into a life of criminality and indolence anyway when they eventually leave school.

I think it does, there's a reason several deprived areas of the big cities are now kicking off, and IMO, its nothing to do with how they were brought up by their parents.

  4. If the rioting has nothing to do with politics (bear with me here), why didn't it happen when I was a kid.

Riots happened when I was a kid but they were people objecting to their employment or way of life being changed or taken away from them in the name of political ideology.

I grew up on a council estate when I was really young - it was actually pretty cool. People backed each other up and no-one would've nicked anything from your house/car as there was more of a community feeling around areas like that.

Fast forward to the nineties and this scheme was a complete dump - people didn't back each other up and everyone was out for themselves.

This was as a direct result of an applied political ideology which eroded the support functions of working class communities to the point where they were no longer communities but collections of capitalist individuals willing to step on their neighbours for short-sighted gain - council houses were no longer a long-term solution to be proud of and looked after but a short-term stop-gap which herded together the poorest of society in a transient set of faux-communities.

These riots are different from what we have seen in the past in the UK and the change in their nature and the change in the nature of society is ENTIRELY down to politics - for all the right-wingers who complain about an undeclass and scum, their political ideom created this underclass and the mentality that causes people to opportunistically loot rather than protest against their local colliery being closed.

I await the negative rep eagerly

Most youths don't care about politics. They just want an excuse to have a go at the police and nick some stuff.

Look at the majority of the trouble-causers though. These people weren't here when we were kids - or not in such concentrated volumes anyway.

  7. ...and that wouldn't be the case without the stuff I mentioned.

You don't have to be interested in politics to have been affected by it.

I better clarify - these wee fannies aren't rioting directly because of politics but the political agenda chased in this country by successive governments has caused their "gangsta" "gimme your money" ethos to come about.

    <ok>

Thatcher the ****. Sold off the council housing but instead of giving the money to the councils to reinvest kept it for central government to splurge on vanity projects in and around London for her rich friends.

The whole ethos of "greed is good" ran through Thatcherite policies and we're living with the consequences of them today.

I look forward to the usual tired cliches about how she sorted out the unions as if that justifies her ripping the soul out of this country.

Stereo - hundred percent agree with that. Communities were destroyed and that's when people stopped looking out for each other.

It ends - or improves anyway - when our liberal society accepts the mandatory sterilisation of these generational scum. All the educational opportunities, counselling, support, benefits and services constantly thrown at this situation have made no difference ; in my opinion they have in fact added to the problem by supporting their continuing procreation.

I wouldn`t go quite that far with my children, I`d just give them a stern talking too as anything further may result in them suing me <ok>

    This <ok>

What gets me is that there are many Government funded programmes designed to teach disadvantaged kids skills to try and get them into work where they get a training allowance, dole money, lunch allowance and travel allowance, plus an all expenses paid overseas placement that should give them some valuable working experience. However, having worked on one of these programmes in the past I can say that these kids simply treat it as an opportunity to get some money for nothing and a free holiday where they do nothing but drink for the time they are abroad.

These kids have no interest in being productive members of society and yet the government throws money at them to try and teach them work related skills <grr>

I think the gansta ethos comes from America. It's attractive because it's a lot easier to be a drug-dealer than it is to get a job and work 40 hours a week, and a lot more financially rewarding too.

I'd be willing to bet money that most of these people haven't been affected by politics. They'd be living a life of crime and benefit-scrounging whether cuts were or not.

Yes. This has **** all to do with government cuts and everything to do with recreational looting. They can shoot these thieving ****ers as far as I'm concerned.

That is exactly what they are! we are all affected by the goverment cuts but most of us dont react by burning buildings, looting and destroying decent peoples livleyhoods.
stop trying to excuse the inexcusable, these people are scum, fortunately most people on these boards seem to realise this.

    You bastard!

I know what you mean, but some people are saying that these rioters are going out on the streets, angry with their lot in life, determined to strike back at the country that is failing them. This is bollocks. They are going out for a bit of fun and some loot. The reasons behind their willingness to do this may be political, but I think some people are giving them too much credit.

There's a video currently on Youtube where a journalist asks a young girl, who'd just looted a Curry's, why she is doing it and replies, 'gettin' ma taxes back innit'.

These idiots clearly DO NOT know why they are rioting. Sure, when questioned they'll put on the waterworks about their hard upbringing or whatever but they weren't even targeting huge, corporate businesses! Small, locally owned bars and shops were getting detroyed just as much. They are doing it for the fun of it and they should face the consequences.
