Of all the players we've had since we've been yoyoing in and out of the Prem Mason would definitely be right up there in contention for the worst player we've signed. What really hurts is that we paid our ALL TIME RECORD TRANSFER FEE to sign this clown. I remember Phelan being very optimistic about Hendriksen but dont recall him saying much about Mason. Was this another Ehab blunder.??? Would love to know who in management thought he was worth 13 mill. He's killing us!!!!!!!
Agree, in part. But if he could consistently be as effective as he was today (even with his limited speed and [more importantly] quickness), he wouldn't be with Hull City AFC. He'd be with a team like Man City FC. It's only the second time I've watched him, and I'm shocked - and delighted - at how good he is.
Agree, he did very well today. He's offside an awful lot though, I just hope that doesn't become something teams target.
Wasn't it fascinating watching a Guardiola team up close though??!! No wonder Stones gets slated when your own keeper passes to you in such awful situations for a CB. Mistakes will happen. Reminded me of when I was about 10 playing a team with a gk who can't kick it far. Our team would just push up n up forcing mistakes. Never seen a team hold such a high line when we had a free kick either!! Think we should have had a set move for this. De Brune his touch and striking of a ball makes you sit up. Nearly as good as Tom...
You've never seen a team set up like that obi. You've never seen two full backs push into play cm as they kept doing or the other things I said. That's fascinating to me.
That high line I thought foxed us, didn't quite know what to do with the free kick. EDIT: De Bruyne tried everywhere over the pitch to make a decisive impact, and up to Tom going off really didn't succeed other than the shot which hit the near post.
Didn't it just. Which if that's something they do regularly then we really should have had a set move for it John.
We where competitive and looking like winning the game at 60 minutes. Huddlestone was having one of the best games in the last couple of years. Then Phelan brings him off and says he is tired. He didn't look tired to me. Watching Diame in the second half of most games now that's tired! A 17 year old full back playing the last 15 minutes of a game in the Premier League when he's off his feet against a inform Phillips that could be described as tired. The only player to me who looked slightly jaded was Clucas so bring on Meyler on. So Phelan decided to bring Mason, this allowed Toure to run the game with our record signing run alongside their midfield like a lost baby goat. We then got deeper and deeper and eventually letting a ineffective Sterling run at us. 1-0. Fair enough. Maybe change the composition of the team bring a centre half off and bring on Diomande drop Livermore a little deeper and push the full backs on. He decides to bring Henriksen on for Livermore taking off our last midfielder with any bite. Thus, reverting to the midfield against Chelsea which was so easily walked through. 2-0. Losing all fight, retention of the ball and chances of getting anything from the game. Finally 3-0, and we have 3 centre halfs on the field of play. Phelan has finally found the formation and correct players to fit it (which is very similar to that of 2 years ago in the relegation season). However, he has no idea what to do in the game when the ref blows his whistle, like a rabbit in the headlights. Allams out!
